I'd like to establish that it's OK to say ass. you can even say asshole, asshat, assmouth, asstastic, cat-ass-trophy, and so on. Please feel free to be creative with your swearing in the future. |

Most forums are uncensored. What can you not say anyway? |

you can say whatever you want at this point in time. just keep in mind you're representing yourself when you say it, and wonder if it's worth it.

I couldn't find a scan of EGM's Ultimate Journey review online, so I put one up here. I miss the days when reviewers called games "carts."
The "Yeah Danny!" at the end of Martin's review is kind of odd. At first I thought it was a reference to Dances with Wolves or something, but now I wonder if it was directed at Dan MacArthur, who worked for Bandai America in the early 1990s.
By the way, does anyone have this issue of Game Players? I think it's the source of nearly all the screenshots we've seen of Ultimate Journey, and I'd like to read what the magazine had to say about the game. |

Yes that is Dan MacArthur, lead on the game. No he doesn't have a copy. |

Oh and I certainly do have that issue of Game Player's. I don't have the text handy and the magazine is buried in the Lost Levels Reference Library Outside Storage Facility, unfortunately. |

Darn. So was Ultimate Journey developed in America? That would make sense, but something about the screenshots always reminded me of "guy games" from Japanese outfits.
Did you ever talk to Bert Schroeder, who was at Bandai around the same time? He lives in your neck of the woods. |

It was most likely made in Japan. Dan MacArthur is also mentioned in the credits to Toxic Crusaders for the Nes, and that game had Japanese programmers. I don't think it was uncommon for Americans to have input into Japanese games being made specifically for the West. Remember Ken Lobb's involvement in several of KID's Nes games.
I would bet anything that Tose made Ultimate Journey. They were Bandai's favorite developer to go to for Famicom games. Plus the graphics in this game do remind me a bit of Frankenstein: The Monster Returns, another Bandai/Tose collaboration.
Well anyway I hope this game is still out there. |

Here's the two-page review from Game Player's. There aren't any new screenshots to add to the database, but it's an interesting look at the game. I'm surprised that Ultimate Journey is described as being so easy, since it's most commonly compared to Ninja Gaiden.
I also noticed that Nintendo Age has scans of EGM's Ultimate Journey coverage. Funny how the preview refers to Haypavo as a princess instead of a medicine man. |

Hi, correction, I was mistaken about Dan not having a copy. We don't know if he has one because no one's spoken to him about it that I know of, after talking to a mutual friend I realized that I misunderstood some information given to me years ago. So, Dan might have something, if he can be found. |

I said this over at NintendoAGE too but please please PM/email me if you're poking around asking about this game, I don't want us stepping on each others' toes, and for some reason there are like three of us hunting this actively right now, which is awesome. |
