Yes, he's a huge collector.
I think he's the same guy that bought a Super Mario Kart proto with differences like music.
He's not really of fan of releasing his protos, but I think he also is/was the owner of the SMB2 proto that did get leaked out. |

I don't have 120 grand to spare right this second, but I do appreciate the halfway decent screenshots he took of the protos. Much better than the blurry ones we'd had before. |

It's worth pointing out that I noticed some similarities to the GB Dr. Mario after this was released. The title screen is square and losing says "MISS!", like Virus.
Neat. |

I actually offered 4k and he countered with something like "12k is the least I could consider", making it slightly more reasonable. |

$12,000 would buy over a ton of Cool Ranch Doritos. (Going by K-Mart prices because Walmart & Target won't sell them online, not accounting for shipping but allowing for tax, factoring from the 13.5oz size bags.) |

So basically 4k each, then. That's a bit expensive, sadly. :( |

Haha, seriously? He told me $14k was the lowest he'd go!
He did offer to throw in DKC3 at that price, "because Xkeeper wanted to document it." |

That guy is going to be sitting on those protos a looong time at that price. Lots of more interesting things out there can be had for $4k a pop. Some of them are not even video games!! |

I dunno, maybe. I considered offering more for maybe two of them or etc, but figured he probably wanted to part with them all together.
Collecting is nice, but for that price I want to be sure I could turn around and sell them for what I paid or more, and I'm not convinced with Dr Mario, even if it is first party with an icon in it.
And then I could own all the Dr Mario prototypes evil laugh har har har stuff balls!. |
