|
|
Hi guys...
I wanted to make you guys aware of a very special auction i'm running (apols if this isn't the right place/some of you already know!)
I stumbled across a Parody World: Monster Party Prototype about a month ago and have been debating what to do with it as i know the significance of the find in retrogaming circles.
I guess the main interest is due to its history with the Japanese owner (of the known copy) and massive overhaul it had between the prototype and American release.
Anyway, to cut the story short... here is a link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171247516989&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
If you have any questions, please let me know! |

Well, that's most certainly something of interest (and I'd say totally right place to post about it :) )
Good luck with the auction! |

good article on the auction: http://1morecastle.com/2014/02/parody-world-monster-party-hits-ebay/
"Until now, only one prototype has seen the light of day, when it was sold at auction in May of 2011 for $6000. What made the original auction more intesting/frustrating for gamers, is that the Japanese owner promised never to release any ROMS, and that he would take the game to his deathbed." |

A guy on this forum I was (unfairly, long story) banned from has a copy of this prototype. (I think). It was a forum about retro games, mainly the Famicom and Famicom Disk System. |

Awesome. |

I mentioned this proto in a weekly game column I do, and someone replied with this:
Quote: |
This proto has been out for a long time. Unless you didn't compile your own, I know the batches weren't audited with an 1337 mindset.
Played it on dreamcast back when that was a homebrew hot bed. |
Any idea what this means? Did someone put out a hacked Monster Party a long time ago? |

I know of one person who had the prototype before the leak came around, but he didn't give off a "it's been around since Dreamcast piracy!" vibe - he treated it more like a game he wanted to show but was obligated to hoard. (he may well have been the anonymous leaker, henceforth I'll say no more about it.)
I was around during those same piracy days and I had no idea about this ROM.
As a barely-related personal anecdote, I was responsible for a prior leak of something a year or so ago (not strictly videogame related, although retro Pokemon fans would probably appreciate it) and the community who were rivals to the group who did the leak tried to downplay it in a similar manner (basically trying to claim that it was nothing special since they knew had it themselves, even though they never shared it [it was a publicly available, though obscure, source at that, so they had no obligation to keep it secret besides filling their own egos]). Since the amount of people who actually knew their source prior to their attempt to downplay it could be counted on one hand, I promptly called them out on their behavior. Something along the lines of "I hoarded this for years, so since I'm upset someone leaked it outside of my control I'm gonna attempt to downplay the leak by admitting I hoarded this for years."
I never did understand the thought process that led them to that behavior. |

Considering how many people were actively looking for Monster Party, myself included, I find it pretty hard to believe that a version was publicly available since the Dreamcast days and no one knew about it. |
