Poor ol' Bonk. Brink of Extinction was to be his modest comeback, a side-scroller for WiiWare, the PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live. The game was apparently close to completion, but Hudson canceled it after the big Konami takeover of 2011.
Fortunately, this guy has a PS3 debug unit with Bonk: Brink of Extinction completely intact, and he's played through a bit of it.
I tried out Brink of Extinction at Comic-Con, and it reminded me of the first Donkey Kong Country: solid, but pretty simple and not all that memorable. The power-ups were mildly interesting, though, and the game was supposed to have a two-player mode. Had it actually come out, I would've given Bonk another shot.
There's the Comic-Con demo station, complete with creepy Sonic-eyed Bonk. |
