Hi, folks. I scanned some pictures of Marukatsu Famicom magazine's coverage of the Shoshinkai, where the Super Famicom was finally launched.

Just curious, what methods are you using to reduce moire? Are you blurring in Photoshop or just resizing down or what? |

For full-page scans that may be scaled down, any technique is OK, either let the scanner do the descreening, or apply a small Gaussian blur.
For tiny pictures on a page, descreening blurs the fine details too much, so I often scan at 450 dpi, then apply a 0.5-pixel Gaussian blur, or sometimes a 0.5-1-pixel motion blur at an oblique angle, whatever will obliterate the moire the most. |

Semi interesting thing about the Metal Man art, Codemasters ended up using it on the label for their Game Gear port of Dropzone.

Yeah, I kept that on because it's from the original photograph...I only try to reverse the printing process when I scan. It's actually from Glove Pilot, one of the unreleased Power Glove games. Here's another, The Terror of Tech Town:
I actually think they're both bull-shots. |

Yes, they're bull, because they're both Amiga screen-shots. |

FWIW Tech Town is based on this Jim Sachs demo, Time Crystal:

Also Sachs doesn't remember there ever being an NES version, so that's pretty interesting. |

Even before ol' Red Eye Frank mentioned Jim Sachs, that screenshot just yelled out "I AM JIM SACHS".
That man is legendary! |
