Kurt from Hardcore Gaming 101 is translating a bunch of Nishizawa's Twitter posts about the game.
It's apparently a tough process, but Nishizawa retrieved these sprites of the three main characters as they appear in the game.

Here's a link to the hash tag on Twitter in case anyone wants to keep up with the development.

I was starting to wonder why there hasn't been any updates about the supposed restoration project in over two years. I hope M2 are still working on the project in some capacity. Has anyone contacted Ryuichi Nishizawa about Westone's possible closure? |

They have everything but the sound ROMs but the game won't boot without them. It needs to be hacked to run. |

Is the sound creator referring to Shin'ichi Sakamoto or someone else who worked on the game? Kinda weird there's some behind-the-scenes drama between him and the Westone CEO. I was under the impression they were in good terms judging from the recent HG101 interview. Here's Sakamoto's Twitter account for those curious.

They don't even follow each other on Twitter. |

I really wish they'd organize a Kickstarter for this. I'd throw in a whole bunch of money. |

Same here. This game really needs to get released. I'd hate for this to remain lost forever cause of a grudge. |

How exactly would a Kickstarter help out? The only issue with the game seems to be Sakamoto's reluctance to provide the missing sound chips (assuming he has them to begin with).

Money changes a lot of things. And I feel bad that the people who made this game apparently are trying to restore it with no compensation. |

Sakamoto....I see someone is following my posts.
M2 commented that they may be able to act as intermediaries but the lack of sound data is why there has been no traction. |

Man, I'd love an M2-remastered pack of Wonder Boy, Monster Lair, and Aquario.

You mean your posts at Gamengai? Is there some other forum where all of this Aquario news is breaking, or is it just stuff from Twitter and inside sources?
Not that I doubt what you're saying. I just want to read more about the game. |

M2 was at my house last week negotiating a deal where we talked about the complications with Aquario. I will be under NDA soon so no more news will come out.
For non-believers, here is the CEO of M2 at my place playing Western retro titles. Tempest 2000 with the rotary controller and Defender 2000 on Jag got a lot of play time.
