Was this game actually released specifically for Summer Carnival'92, or was it a normal release that was just used for this competition? I've tried finding crap on both the game and the "carnival" but about all I could figure out was that it was the second game released for the carnival, and it's hard as hell. Actually wouldn't mind knowing what the first game of the carnival was either come to think of it. If anyone knows anything about this game or that shmup competition in general I'd love to hear about it. |

Update... other game at the carnival was "Summer Carnival '92: Alzadick" and it is apparently different than the PC Engine version, not that I can find the rom or any info anywhere.. I'll keep looking about. Thanks for any help. |

I'm pretty sure it was the winner of a "design your own game" contest, using that editable Famicom shooter. |

Assuming that's the case, they sure put a lot more effort into the music than you usually hear in such things. Also, "Alzadick" is an amazing title. |

Are you two talking about the PC Engine version, or have you played the famicom version, assuming there is one... haven't found any proof other than a mention of it in shmups msg board. |

Would you believe there's a soundtrack for Recca? I have it, I got it a few years ago before I knew what it was. It was just titled "Compile Caravan Shooting Festival 1992" or somesuch.
There's got to be more info around... |

It was loads of fun writing a review of Alzadick, as you might imagine. There were countless opportunities to make phallus jokes.

I have the album in mp3. It's only seven tracks, and all synth arrangements. It is not a soundtrack for Recca, but one or two tracks might derive from Recca. I assume each track is probably taken from a different game spotlighted by the festival. |

I strongly doubt that there's a Famicom version of Alzadick... It was a multi-platform event, unlike say, NWC. For what it's worth, the "World" in NWC looks really stupid as I get older. |

Still looking around for Alzadick Famicom version, but can't find any info at all.. Everywhere simply lists PC Engine version. Did find one of the games from the next year, Summer Carnival '93 Nexzar Special.. also PC Engine. Looking like Recca was the only Famicom game up, but I'm hoping I'm wrong. |

I'm pretty sure that Alzadick and Nexzr were PC-Engine only. Hudson's Summer Caravan was a game competition (not of the "make -your-own-shooter" type) where since 1985, players competed in contests in shooting and other games.
The games, as far as I remember them:
1985: Star Force
1986: Star Soldier
1987: Hector '87
1988: Power League (PCE)
1989: Gunhed (PCE)
1990: Super Star Soldier (PCE)
1991: Final Soldier (PCE)
1992: Soldier Blade??? (PCE)
1992: Alzadick (PCE)
1992: Recca (FC)
1993: NEXZR Special (PCE)
1994: ??? (last year)
This is just from my memory and a quick web search. I thought that Soldier Blade was the game used in '92. Anyway, it's possible that multiple games were used at these tournaments. |
