|
|
I was at Target today, and noticed they've got some portable DVD players that come with a Xboxish controller, hyping that they've got games built in. The controller has an a, b, and turbo a and b. Has anybody seen what's in these? Famiclone inside, perhaps? |

No, this was real brand, like Sharp and Magnevox, I think. And it listed something like "30 games included" or such. |

I'll have to take a look next time I go.
But as far as Famiclones...
okay, walking through the Mall of America, I found a booth selling those "Power Player" Famiclone-in-a-N64-controller-things.
I don't think you can get much more conspicuous than that. Nintendo must not care anymore or something.
Though maybe if it could play actual carts, I'd maybe get one.
I KNOW A GENUINE PANAPHONIC WHEN I SEE ONE! |

Conspiracy minded as it may be, I think N's letting them slide as "market testing" for an eventual system-in-a-pad of their own design. They're seeing how much they can charge and still be viable.

I saw the exact same "brand" of Famiclone both in Texas last June, and at the local fair in September (the ones at the fair were weird, though, because the speed was cranked waaaaaaay up on SMB). I think I've seen them elsewhere recently as well. Business must be booming, as I'd never seen anyone peddling the things before. |

They sell those in the local malls here too, at kiosks. I've seen SMB, I've seen excitebike, and other shit too. It really pisses me off that Nintendo doesn't care enough to sue these fucks into the ground, but meanwhile we're pirates.
Really gets to me. |

The refrence was Simpsons.
It seems everyone has seen those Famiclones, most of the time being in the middle of a mall.
I'm no exception of course.
I've seen the with the ol' "Pirate Rom with black game menu".
Gee, even nowadays their creations are still being sold. |

There's a new Famiclone at one of the places that sells the crap-ass Power Players, looks PSone-ish, but chunkier. It seems pretty nice, I'll molest them some more at the mall soon, as I'm all up on good Famiclones...
there's a pic of it at http://411toys.com/ping_pong.html
not the pingpong part, just the system and a nice multi.
Maybe if I can find it at $20ish.
[edit]oh, urine. I went to go look on ebay for one cheap. I figured I'd go in through my old bookmarked search of "daicon" as bootlegs of III and IV are all that ever comes up. And now somebody has the resin kit from Kaiyodo. The original one. sigh.[/edit] |

I demoed that thing, it was pretty crappy. Only one game mode, and hitting the ball is only a matter of swinging the paddle in front of the sensor. |

Yeah, I saw that too. I also was in the mall and saw the same kiosk today, but without the televisions set up so people could play as previous. Makes me wonder. And still angry. |

Well, in our country, these things are rampant... Well, piracy is literally ONLY commodity here (It's like.... more than 95% of the stuff here.... )
My sister bought one of those things here except it's a VCD player, that has controllers shaped like a Genesis controller and has a CD that only loads on that VCD player. It has a image-based menu that loads on what seems to be ROMS. (Looking at the CD, it seems to be a heavily modified ROM image, and doesn't load on NES emulators.)
The only rant I have on this things is that those famicom games run at like, Frameskip 3 or maybe even higher.... It makes a lot of games quite unplayable. It emulated things fine though. |
