....doing articles on dead companies, or ones with confusing histories?
I really think it could be quite interesting....I'm sure there are a lot of game companies that people loved the games from but nobody is really sure what happened to them (coughcough Quintet cough cough). And anyone who has tried to explain the Treasure/Konami relationship can vouch for how much false and misleading information is spread around the web.
Just a thought.... |

Yeah, I'd certainly run something like that. In fact, I have something very similar "planned" for the future. The thing is, we really don't get any money or noteriety or ANYTHING for doing this site. In fact, it costs us money. Lots of money. Especially me. So while I'd love to see a million new article on this site every day, it's kind of hard to get motivated and do everything I want to see done.
That said, if you have any leads, do let me know. |

Nah, I hate those. We trashed that idea before the site even went live. |

Should I start a camwhore thing on the first page? I can take pictures of myself staring off into nothing while wearing my best thrift clothes. I'll even superimpose a "<3". |

Well if you put it in the center of the screen and beg people every five lines to donate then, yeah you´re streetwalking down the camera lens. But if the link wasn´t invasive, say only on the home page down at the bottom underneath the "contact us" link, it wouldn´t look distasteful at all. You could probably, and I´m guessing, get at least five bucks a month from viewers it in addition to donations from dedicated board members. |

I would also like to know the answer. They dropped out of sight after making Solo Crisis and contributing to The Granstream Saga.
I was never certain if Shade, Granstream's developer, hired some old Quintet staffers or just borrowed them. For example, Tomoyoshi Miyazaki, the director of the excellent Terranigma, co-authored the scenario for Granstream. Too bad he never surfaced again after that.
Heck, the company's website hasn't been updated since 2002. |

I don't think so. Sony published it in Japan and Europe, while THQ released it in America. |

Funny thing is, a lot of "dead" publishers, at least the Japanese companies, aren't really dead... just without American branches and/or no longer in the gaming business.
SOFEL (creators of Casino Kid and *coughworld'sworstgame*Wall Street Kid): Still around in Japan, started as a business software developer and probably should have stayed that way to begin with.
http://www.sofel.co.jp/
Figured I'd take another stab after their being mentioned in another thread, as Google failed me when I tried last year...
TAXAN: Pretty much dead as a Kaga subsidary in Europe, where they were mostly known for computer monitors. http://www.taxan.co.uk/
But, looks like they still do a lot of computer hardware stuff in Japan. http://www.taxan.net/
Culture Brain: Still around as a game developer in Japan, most of their lineup seems to be Pet Sims and use of the Hamtaro licence (which surprises me that they're Japanese only with the show being aired over here).
http://www.culturebrain.co.jp/collections/main.html
NTVIC: All I knew this company for was Rock N' Ball (developed by VAP and released by Namcot in Japan under a different name and with Namco franchise themes), the ill fated CrazyLand, Q-Bert 3 for SNES, and a few other weird games. This I didn't know... they're the American subsidary of Nippon TV http://www.ntvic.com/eng/index_e.html
VIC Tokai: Another company thought to go defunct, actually just went out of the gaming business. Turns out the "VIC" stands for "Valuable Information and Communication". Now deals in mostly business computer networking. http://www.victokai.co.jp/
The one mystery company, out of the few I could think of:
DTMC: US publisher mostly involved in American (maybe European) developed titles but ported a few games from Japan. Best known for Lester The Unlikely, Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle, and the unreleased Moon Crystal. Possibly went out of business shortly after Ranma 1/2 was released (around that time, DTMC was no longer listed as a Nintendo licencee). Not much else known about these guys.
Now as for the game developers, the real heroes... that's going to takes some actual detectivin'. |

It's posts like these that remind me of why I opened up forums. Good work, you're now an Honorary Lost Levels Vaporware Detective (Junior Class). |

no, I'm just easily entertained when there are questions... I figured this was img-timeline for someone here.
