MQ: Japanese developed for America. Square USA, which was a VERY small office in Redmond and was basically a Nintendo-pawn at the time, had almost nothing to do with actual game development aside from translations. Evermore was the first game ever developed under Square USA (and I know that was when they moved to Honolulu or California one...)
Nintendo Power claims MQ only came to Japan out of "gamer demand", and was given the title Final Fantasy USA. Dunno why Woosley ever needed to "translate" anything, could have been just the plot itself and nothing in the actual game. Or it could have actually been planned for a Japanese release from the get-go. That's anyone's guess.
We SOOOO should have gotten FF5 instead.
And while I agree that Evermore is slightly underrated, I will say it wasn't underrated enough to opt it over SD3. |

THIS IS A LONG DEAD POST!
I view FF:MQ as more of an RPG tutorial than an actual game. That was probably the point, though. I mean, it's even labeled as an "entry-level RPG". |

Ah, so it is a dead post. Just noticed the date of the post prior to mine yesterday. Sorry, just trying to get involved. |
