This is a really good game. One thing that should be clarified is that the Gameboy's English version was Europe-Only and is pretty damn rare (although I managed to pick it up for cheap on eBay, from a UK seller, man that package came disturbingly fast from overseas, too!)

The GB version is good even despite the minor shortcomings. I was suprised that I became so addicted to it.

Who else has played the NES or GB versions, and did anyone get ahold of the prototype for it?

Thanks.

Triumph is a definite favorite of mine. No prototype has been found to the best of my knowledge, but that's definitely up there on the list of cool unreleased games to look for. And you're right about the English release being Europe-only. I said otherwise on my site years ago and only within the past couple of months realized I was wrong.

I always thought that, if the game had a larger fanbase, it would be cool to have one centralized site with a bunch of fan-made boards. I've still got an old custom board I made way back when, you can download the FCEU savestate here if you want to try it. I made that mostly to experiment with the mummy character, since it rarely shows up during the regular game.

Oh yeah, Kitsune mentioned recently that he might finish his translation of Triumph, so hopefully we'll have an English Nes version before too long.

Why don't we get some programmers together and make an online version? That would rule.

A nice idea, but probably much easier said than done. I don't think many programmers out there could just throw something like Triumph together in their spare time.

If you're thinking of an online version so you could play two player games, several Nes emulators have online multiplayer support.

I really enjoy this game as well. I bought the European Gameboy Version for about $15.50 several months ago off of Ebay. I never quite went on to beating it though, it got difficult after like, map 8.

Something trivial I just realized: Triumph is based heavily on shougi (Japanese chess). Promoting pieces when entering the opponent's territory, converting captured pieces to your side, it's all borrowed from shougi. I suppose this shouldn't be too surprising from a strategy game from Japan, but I never noticed it before now.
