If it's unreleased PSX betas he wants, i have a co-worker who has a mountain of PSX RPG betas that nobody has ever seen before. I might be able to come up with a 3-way trade to get something he's interested in...
Course, it's not worth the trouble if he's not even willing to discuss it.
You're misreading the conversation. I'm the one asking to converse via IM.
ProgrammingAce: Add me to MSN, and try and get me a list of what your friend has, I'll compile it with what I have and make an offer to him again. My msn is my email address.
Well, hold on. Before i get too far into this i'm going to need to know a few things. In order to get these PSX betas, it's going to cost me a fair bit.
First, i don't know anything about Resident Evil, and i know even less about biohazard 1.5. Has anyone confirmed that this isn't something that's been floating around for years? Can anyone tell if it's actual gameplay? I assume someone from Dot50's crew could confirm that fairly quickly...
Second, are we reasonably sure that whoever has the disc is willing to trade? This is going to be a lot of trouble to come up with a stack of PSX betas if no one is willing to come to the table. On top of that, are they willing to do some sort of escrow (I don't know if RedEye would be willing to volunteer for the job again, but it would need to be someone trustworthy)
Third, is the person who holds the disc only looking for PSX things in trade? I have things for more modern systems that would be worth more then RE 1.5 (YA RLY). That would make any trade far easier for me to pull off. I have tools that do things that i'm not even allowed to admit are possible...
If someone wants to discuss a possible trade in private, you can give them my email address: ace@hackur.com

This isn't something that's been floating around for years, quite the opposite in fact, this is a scrapped, 80% complete edition of resident evil 2 that was scrapped for the current version. It's been 'missing' for around 11 years. It is actual gameplay, everything that has been posted in the video, or nearly everything, is completely new information.

As for whether or not he has the disc is a matter of contention, I don't know if he has it, or was loaned it, I suspect the latter, however the fact he was discussing a trade suggests to me that he may be open to the idea. As I said, I'm not asking for anything up front or anything along those lines, something like a list of what your friend has and wouldn't object to sharing is all. I've a few betas and rare PSX Memorabilia that I'll be trading also.

Well, the guy Runs the PSX Museum, and in my communications with him, it appears that he is only interested in PSX stuff, but, he may be open to others, I really don't know. As I said, if you can give me a list, or even something that he may be interested in, we can combine it with what I have, to see if that would open up the negotiation table.
With him holding back so much on the information on whether he will trade or not, it does have me somewhat cagey about sharing what I have with him, but my desire to play RE1.5 overrides that.
As for the cost of attaining the betas, are we talking monetary costs, or otherwise? Because monetary wise, if he is interested, and the trade does go through, I could probably help with that, but as I said, get back to me. If you have another IM of preference, let me know and I'll install it.

Perhaps i misspoke. I know what RE 1.5 is, it's just that I care so little about the game itself, i haven't even bothered to watch this 10 min video. I'd just like to see it released because i know everyone else wants it.
I just wanted to hear someone like Dot50 chime in and verify that this isn't something that was sitting on the rare games FTP for years until PSX Museum posted it. Basically, i just want to know that this is something worth going after.
PSX museum knows who i am, he knows i can come up with things that would make the trade worthwile. If he's still not willing to come to the table to discuss it after that, then there probably isn't anything i could offer to make him change his mind...
And no, i'm not avoiding talking to you over instant messenger, i'm just working 70+ hour weeks and email or forum posts are the best way to get in touch with me.
If it's merely a reassurance you're after that this is something worth going after, then I can provide you an emphatic yes on that regard, confident that dot50cal will back me up on this, I've never had the pleasure of accessing the rare games ftp (any chance of a hookup? I'm more than willing to upload what I have ) but I can tell you that this is an incredibly rare find.
I'll send PSXMuseum another message letting him know I have someone else interested in making a joint offer, I'll email you sometime in the next few days with the draft. Like to make these things official and such.
The FTP is a topic for another thread, but basically it was a semi-restricted server full of unreleased stuff. I never actually logged into it myself though. It's been down for a bit over a year now, i keep meaning to contact the owner and see if i can get the drives off of him, but i'm a lazy bastard.
Ace, from what I know of this particular build, there are two copies in existence, one was recently sold. I assume this copy was the one that made its way to PS Museum (the timing of this is within a few days), though I don't think he was the original buyer. The disc is likely to have passed through a few hands, or the buyer could have simply given the exclusive "review" to PS Museum to avoid the heat that would come with the game.
As per the build itself, it seems to be a somewhat earlier version from before they scrapped the project. Some people on the Bioflames boards have broken it down rather well and showed that this version is older than:
A) Inflames (Bioflames) build which is featured in some shots on his site
B) The (presumably) final working version which had videos of it on the BH Directors Cut Dual Shock "Complete disc"
I was hoping to work something out with the Curator, however he appears to still be digging into the game himself. He hasn't addressed any talk of purchasing it from him, so I can only assume that he would not want to do it at this time. Which is understandable, given that his site is getting a lot of hits due to this and he wants to keep that up.
He has said that he is only interested in PSX prototypes, which for me, are few and far between. So if you wanted to try and make some kind of a deal, I think that would be the way to go.
To be clear though: The pictures and video on his site are 100% new, and not some press video. I would confidently say that this is a legit build of the game from what I can see. No builds of 1.5 are out in the public. The closest thing is Biohazard 2 "beta 2" which is a prototype build of Resident Evil 2 far after they had scrapped the 1.5 storyline.
I just woke the dude up at 2:00 AM last night to go look at a server for no reason. I think i need to wait a few days before i go asking him for favors. Gimmie a few days.
Out of curiousity, what do you do? I've seen you around a few different communities and you seem well versed in prototypes and other assorted technical things.
