This is the worst football game I have ever played, and this includes Joe Montana for the Sega CD! Highlights after playing for about ten minutes:

- Being on defense and holding the CPU team to 4th and 9 on their own 20 yard line...after which they opt NOT to punt the ball, but instead run a passing play. This is with five minutes left in the first quarter!

- Passing to a receiver on the right side of the field, only to have the ball magically teleport into an opposing team member's hands on the left side of the field. Guess I'm playing defense now!

- Watching both teams huddle for about thirty seconds at a time between plays. This is because they are thinking important things.

- Having the game crash twice. One time it showed a debug screen that said that the game does not know how to allocate memory very well. :(

Still though, it's awesome to finally get to play this. It's sad to think, but GameDay would've totally kicked this game's ass.

enjoy it (to the extent its possible to anyway..)

the game does run better on hardware than in emulator imo, it'll crash out randomly though (crash on menu, crash during play, missing files, etc etc). The game has reference to a lot of files which just arent on the disc, and subsequently cause crashes when it tries unsucessfully to find them. It goes out to all our football loving fathers.

i hate hoarders =)

Yes, Sarduis, the game stinks. I remember being disappointed when reading EA cancelled it, and was relieved when I tried Gameday.
NHL 97, the first PSX NHL title from EA, also should have been cancelled, as it was absolutely horrid.
I do know there is a NHL 96 beta out there, sprite based, not the polygon nightmare that was Doritos 97.
Maybe some fattie will dump it.

If anyone would like to write a guest review of this game, I'd be happy to publish it.

Interesting that this finally surfaced. I really aint a fan of football games but have played some maddedn for N64. I remember reading about this game in EGM's lost games article they had some time ago. Apparently one big mistake they made was that the guys making it were trying to create a model for each and every player in every team instead of making a limited nuber of bodies and adding different colored outfits to them. It lead to like, 2 minute load times or something.

Guess this release is somehow related to the fact that this game was up on ebay a few months ago?

Funny, I have seen John Madden several times near west 72nd street here (He lives in The Dakota, where John Lennon lived/died) and every time I mention this game, he showers me with Cheetos.
