Not sure if this would be the place to discuss this, but a Youtube video showed up recently which discussed a little hidden audio easter egg that appears in many games by Nintendo sound designer Kazumi Totaka... whose work you might recognize... games such as the Animal Forest/Crossing games (N64/GCN/NDS), Super Mario Land 2, Zelda: Link's Awakening, and quite a few more titles in Nintendo's long history.

Basically each of those games has a small snippet of music buried in many of the games he's worked on, it's the same tune but it appears in different places in each game.

Anyway the reason I brought this up is I saw 'X' for the original Gameboy brought up in another thread here. A second video has shown up recently detailing a couple more games, and X was mentioned as one of the games this secret most likely appears in, quite possibly the first game to have it, in fact.

One of my favorite subjects. Smile Not to brag, but I was the one who found the song in Wario Land VB and in Kaeru no Tameni for GB.

Anyway, it's sad that it hasn't been found in X yet, but with any hope, maybe someone will locate it. Heck, people still haven't found the song in Luigi's Mansion, but I'm still hoping that it's there. Also, it has to be in Wii Sports, too. But I've listened everywhere in that game, and so far, no luck. Sad

Did he compose the Wii's system music as well? The Shop Channel sounds particularly Mario Paint-ish to me.

There's also been a 3rd video on the subject out for a while now.

This is my favorite video game easter egg(s), and needless to say I'm glad someone got around to documenting it in video form.

I never heard about this before. It's pretty interesting to hear.

Sure they have! It's in one of the videos.

Well, to be fair that post came before I linked the video showing that it was in Luigi's Mansion.

Wow I didn't think there'd be any replies to this after a while, but here they are...

It's a neat secret though, and if I had the time I could use a GB sound player to find it in SML3 (I already played around with one and found out how its stored in SML2 -- it's not a separate sound file, instead it's hidden in the 'game over' music at 2:30~ just like they said. So if it were in SML3, it must be hidden the same way.)

Though I'm curious to see if it's really hidden in WaveRace 64, I always liked that game. (And not to mention the OST's pretty awesome, too.)

EDIT: blues: that was you? small world I guess... Also keep an ear out on Wii Sports, as the Luigi's Mansion vid reports he's worked on that, too.

Awesome! It's finally been found in Luigi's Mansion! Very Happy It sound really funky, too. Can't wait to see if it's in Wii Sports....I've been waiting several minutes at every scoring screen, etc., but no luck so far.

Oh, and DarkTetsuya, though Mark Kelly at Nintendo Database did credit me for finding it in Kaeru no Tameni (Matt Broussard), don't believe for a second that it was Nick Barba (who got credited in the youtube video, grrr! Mad) that found it in Wario Land VB. I've e-mailed Mark about it and he confessed to getting our names mixed up, and he says he'll fix it whenever he can access his computer again (hence no updates for the last two months).

Well I've been playing around with the soundrip from the N64 version of Wave Race 64 (granted it's the rumble pack version, but I'm assuming they're identical aside from the addition of rumble support.) to see if I could find it, but so far nothing.

I might go and see if I can find it in Super Mario Land 3 though, since it will most likely be hidden in the same fashion as SML2.

I think it probably is in Wave Race 64, but just think how weird it would be to hear it that game's soundtrack.

Oh, and let me save you some time by pointing out another error that Powet guy made: the song isn't in Super Mario Land 3. And if it were, it would be quite a huge find, considering that Super Mario Land 3 was composed by one Ryoji Yoshitomi (composer of Metroid 2 and designer/composer of Wario Ware), not Kazumi Totaka. I can't blame him for mistaking it for a Totaka soundtrack, though, because the game does have some very quirky tunes...

Yep. At least I think so. I haven't actually heard the Shop Channel's music (dial-up, *sigh*), but the Mii channel sounds preeeettty Mario Paint-ish.

Not to mention the Mario Paint sound effects in the Photo Channel.
