I had a chance to interview Raymond Yan, Senior VP of Operations for DigiPen. To be honest, I never really thought much of the schools dedicated to pumping out game developers like DigiPen and FullSail, but after talking with them, maybe they are on to something. I really can't deny the fact that a general Computer Science degree just doesn't cover the skills needed for game dev. While it's possible to pick up the skills as you go, I can see the benefit of knowing what you're doing before you walk in the door.
Anyway, here's the interview:

First, how many websites do you people have?
And second, I seem to remember someone's Public Relations person telling me that she'd get back with me about a month ago...
But that is a cool site. I'm working on putting together some resources for developers, and that's going to have to go on the list now too. |

hm, there's Gamasutra, Game Career Guide, GameSetWatch, Serious Games Source, and some other stuff in the pipeline.
And Tara's on maternity leave, so it's going to be a long wait! Just go here and pick the obvious person to contact (PROTIP: The editorial director is also the IGF director): http://www.cmpgame.com/contactus.html |

Well, if you want to get technical, yeah. In which case, there's also indigames.com, mobilegamenews.biz, gamerbytes.com, and individual sites for each of the many, many conferences we run. |

add http://gamehistory.com to RedEye's list...
Someone asked me yesterday if i worked for CMP. When I said no, they asked why CMP had registered my website. Then they showed me the Whois... I stared at it confused for a minute before i realized they were missing an "r" in there somewhere.
I'd complain, but they registered theirs about 10 years before i did. |
