Strider rocks. I'll take any version and gobble it up. Now, I do remember vaguely some talk about it being perfectly ported to the NEC SuperGrafix, that massive flop of a console from back in 1994.
I almost went ahead and got one in 1996, just for the sake of having the pixel perfect port in my own shack, next to my spackle-bucket/half a broken door table. But i did not, because i never heard anything else about the release. Seems it was vapourware.
I saw this page at about 101 Secrets of the Turbo Grafix at NFG games, and i just thought I'd share it, because it rehashed some memories. Just scroll down # 25, theres a screenshot from Diehard GameFan too. The screen is almost certainly of the real arcade game.
http://nfggames.com/games/pce/
And no, dickheads, I no longer eat my baked beans on top of a broken door, things have improved, i now eat Doritoes encrusted circus burgers fried in lard on top of said broken door.
By the way, NFG guy quotes RedEye's article in Edge, word for word. |

I remember first hearing of it in EGM, and they definitely had more than one pic. Of course, theres no reason those couldn't have been arcade versions too, but I dunno.
There's some story or rumor or urban legend or some shit that the guy who was coding it committed suicide...Or am I thinking of something else? There was rumors of him starting the project, but shit hit the fan only a small percentage through. Am I getting my wires crossed, or am I on the right track?
According to Maxlords here, there's "a pretty damned rare one for the Duo CD system that's aracade card compatible though":
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8966
Oh, wait, and that's the thread mentioning the suicide. Slapdash mentions he heard 70%. Tempest says he heard nervous breakdown, not suicide. So, I dunno. Anyone got some better info than this shit?

I like the header image. A box of bagged N64 Turok carts and a Zip disk which I can hardly read but think it says "TUROK / NA / 2001" among other crap.
How about the DVD critic |

That's a pretty trite conclusion, Frank. You may want to consider rewriting that. |

Wow, that's kooky.
Let's see, he uses the Nome de Guerre "RedEye".
He writes for Edge.
He writes about games.
He is sharp and has a viper typing finger (in lieu of tongue).
What are the chances he has a buddy named Kap, has a fetish for Sachen games, and has an entire room in pink dedicated to Liberace, Wayland Flowers, and Bette Davis?
The mind boggles! |

I still think the DVD reviewer Other Frank Cifaldi is the deadlier threat. |

This is the email I wrote that guy in September 2005:
Subject: Hi, I'm the real Frank Cifaldi
Your name is also Frank Cifaldi. I write reviews professionally, you also write reviews professionally. My work is the first and second Google result for "Frank Cifaldi," and yours is the third. You have similar taste in movies. Your picture is the only one that does not appear on the einsiders.com writers directory page. Our writing style is similar at times, and people have commented to me directly about a Hellraiser review I did not write.
I've been in a near-constant state of fatigue lately, despite many sleeping hours, and I've come to the conclusion that I must be leading a double life, playing the role of Frank Cifaldi - Professional Videogame Writer-Slash-Drunkard by day and Frank Cifaldi - DVD Buff and Autograph Collector by night. This is some real Tyler Durden shit, and I don't want to resort to shooting myself in the face to be rid of you, so I guess we're going to have to live with each other. Please don't try to blow up any buildings. I promise to go along with your crazy schemes if you promise to share Helena Bonham Carter's sexual favors.
Love,
You
his reply:
Hi me! What a pleasure to hear from you--I have often seen you name on google and wondered where we were related down the line. Frank, I am 42 and live in Memphis where I work in a pharmacy by day in a division devoted to people with MS. You are in Vegas, correct? My father was also Frank and he passed away in November of last year. My grandfather was also Frank and he died in 1974 in Miami.
I started to write DVD reviews earlier this year when a friend here in Memphis inroduced me to the site. I am glad that you have seen some of my work as I have yours. One day I hope to put a pic on the site but since I look like the Michelin tire man, its not like I will pick up any chicks! Geez, my balls are so blue that crayola is making a new color to put next to Cornflower and Sky so Helena Bonham is all MINE if i ever get her! LAUGHING OUT LOUD
I hope the people that have contacted you in regards to my reviews have been kind. If not, tell 'em to drop me a line. I love the critics!!!
Brother, I would love to talk to you some time to see if we have any of the same heritage so I am going to entrust you with my number in case you are interested: xxx-xxx-xxxx. It would be nice to talk to my doppleganger!
Thanks so much for the note and I wish you, er, ME, the very best! By the way, there is another Frank Cifaldi who lives in East Tennessee and he is a blacksmith. I would start to sing "It's a small world after all" but then I would have to swallow a bullet. Take care and fill me in on YOU sometime.
The Genuine Frank Cifaldi |

Frank Cifaldi is apparently going through some tough times right now.
This is actually pretty sad to read. :( |
