just thought this might be interesting topic, it always drives me nuts when i get stuck at the very start of a game.
for some bizarre reason i always got stuck almost at the very start of batman forever on the megadrive/genesis (or maybe some other version i cant remember) as i couldnt figure out where the hell i was supposed to go next or how to get out of whatever screen i was on.
Also driver on the playstation... couldnt pass the training level bit... got so annoyed i never bothered playing it again. |

I turned off Golden Sun on the GBA before the opening cinema was over, I had been sitting on the toilet for about twenty minutes waiting for the game to start. I never bothered turning it on again.

I waited through an anime cutscene, then ten minutes of talking, then another anime cutscene before I turned off Mega Man ZX and never played it again. I never even got to the gameplay.
I also got stuck at the beginning of Batman Forever when I rented it. I think what you had to do was push three buttons at once to use a grappling hook or something? I took it back to the store before I could figure that out though. |

You mean besides Ikaruga?
The first one that jumps out at me is Roger Rabbit for the NES. I was very excited about this game but couldn't figure out what to do for the life of me when I was a kid. |

Drakhan, or whatever that SNES release title was. I had no clue what to do....it reminded me of Legacy of the Wizard in that until late in the age of the internet, I couldn't figure out wtf to do. I liked it, just had no clue. Never did come back to that game. Hmmm.

Congo Bongo, when i was like five. I think it was for the 2600, but we couldn't actually make it do anything once we stuck the cart in and the game started. So long ago that they actually let us return it for something else. |

ET for the 2600, i read a "walkthrough" and still don't know wtf i'm supposed to do.
Dick Tracey for the NES, again WTF.
More recently
007: Everything or Nothing. First Xbox game i bought, returned it within an hour.
Xmen Legends (N-Gage). Either i'm going something horribly wrong, or the first miniboss pwns.
I had trouble with Rez for a while, until i figured out i was doing it wrong... |

Well, I haven't played the first X-Men Legends, but I have the second one for PSP and have played Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and ALL the bosses are ballcrushingly hard to kill. I had to level my whole team up to 30 to kill Sugar Man, who was level 25. A guy 5 levels lower than my party still killed 3 out of the 4 members of my team.
EVERY SINGLE BOSS has been like this. I have never had all 4 X-Men survive a boss fight, regardless of tactics. |

I have no idea how Spelunker was popular in Japan, along with Druaga and Milon's Secret Castle. I think every American who played those gave up the first level. And to pick on the Europeans, I'm going to put Jet Set Willy and Manic Miner in the same boat. |

Dragster for the 2600. I must have blown my engine 300 times over countless times trying it before figuring it out. |

I will never figure out Dragster.
As for Milon's Secret Castle, that game pwns if you can get to the second or third level...it gets really good, I promise. Seriously, give it a shot.
ET I can understand. When I was little (six?), my dad showed me how to beat it, and once I was shown once, it made total sense and I was able to beat it all the time. But, without being shown, yeah I could see how that'd be a pain in the ass.

Though I don't get stuck on the level, I usually have a 1 in 5 chance of dying on the first Goomba in Super Mario Brothers 1-1.
Sad, trying times these are. I now make my wife play as Luigi if we play together, as then I actually get a chance to go through a few levels and die before she beats the game. |

What if we're discussing prince albums?
Beside that...
There was some game for the 1200XL that required you to twirl the joystick to spin the space ship enough to get out of the hangar.
We could never get out of the hangar.
Anyone know what that was? |

I got this Beverly Hills Cop game on PS2, and it's so badly programmed that the first level is literally impossible. Also they couldn't get the rights to the Axel F. theme or Eddie's likeness, so the substitutes are...sinful. |

I see that game in the terrifying software bargain bin of "non-game stores that sells games", along with huge piles of random plagiarism from Phoenix Software. |
