|

i've come into possession of a Gamate and a few games, and i've been looking around to see if anyone's taken a shot at emulating the thing or dumping its games, but as far as i can tell no one has (have they?).
i'd guess the main reason it hasn't been attempted is the obscurity and (relative) rarity of the thing, but i'd be willing to send a console and a couple of games to anyone who's seriously interested in taking a look at it (most of my games are in storage on the other side of the country at the moment, but if theyre successful i'll get the rest of them out for dumping and that) - does anyone know of someone who'd be worth asking, or a forum i could post on, or an irc channel, or something? |

Hey, I remember the Gamate, they advertised in VG&CE back in the day. I believe they even reviewed the console and a handful of games in an issue, and said if they got any requests they'd do more (shockingly never happened!)
Emulation would certainly be interesting. Are the games any good? |

For the most part, no - a lot of them were obviously rushed to get a decent number of games out for launch with absolutely zero third-party support. which is a shame. There are a few sort of semi-decent ones around though, and some that would probably be more enjoyable if they weren't crippled by the shite screen. I reckon it beats the Watara Supervision at least.
thanks, i'll have a look. |

I have recently bought a unit and a cart as well, waiting to be dumped. In MESS the support would be for sure considered as soon as BIOS & carts will be dumped (also ranger_lennier has a few cards, and recently both Hartung Game Master and Epoch Game Pocket have been added in MESS)
the reason Gamate is still unemulated it's because nothing has been dumped ever, simply as it could sound |

yeah i was looking around the MESS forums, there's a thread that at least mentions the thing, and possibly someone having games and that.
honestly i'm not big on MESS in general though, and i'm not entirely sure why, i'll come back when im sober and see if i know then. but if MESS is only way to get these crappy games (except Snowman Legend which is awesome) dumped and emulated, then i'll certainly go for it. |

MESS confuses and frightens me. It's like MAME, but...not.
I guess I've been spoiled by the industry-standard "Load ROM..." dialog. |

if you're under Windows and you launch messgui, you can actually load games... it's only that you have to setup a lot of directories and the picker which creates the list of the file present is a bit slow
and in-game you can choose between newui (with a friendly bar and the usual options to load/unload carts/floppies etc) and the old MAMEstyle ui
but it's definitely less immediate than other emulators... it gets sometimes to get used to that |

If anybody is willing to part with their Gamate stuff, I'll gladly pay top dollar. Just throwin' the offer out there. |
