I'd post this a day sooner if it weren't for the fact that I decided to post it as a false April Fools Joke over on The Horror is Alive.

Anyway, a pair of pictures that were hiding on both the Code: Veronica X (PS2) disc and in Code: Veronica -Complete- (Dreamcast) seems to indicate that someone was at some point during the game's updated/ported development planning to possibly do a VS Battle mode in the game. At least I assume it would've been intended for the Complete/X re-release, as these pictures were not present in the two Dreamcast demos or the initial Dreamcast release of the game.

I somewhat doubt that there's any playable code in there, as the pictures seems more like someone's quick layout sketches done in an image editing tool, rather than actual screenshots of anything... but of course, if other traces of it would surface too, that'd be pretty sweet. (So happy hunting to whoever goes there!)

Anyway;
Initial post featuring the two pictures + a bit of general theorizing and information about what you see in the shots
(Followed by a few nice "NICE TRY! NOT FOOLING ME!", "BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!" and "1st of April, LULZ!" posts)

and...
How to locate these images for yourself.
(if you just couldn't take our word for it or don't appreciate my butchering of them in the newspost)

That's wild. It would have been a really unique mini-game.

It's possible it could be lurking around in the code somewhere. If you think about it, it wouldn't have been terribly difficult or time-consuming to program, given that it's reasonably certain the mini-game uses only pre-existent character models and backgrounds...

One thing I didn't mention in the initial post about it (but which I'll probably toss in a few words on + try to capture some nice footage of, evt.) is how Dino Crisis 2 has a bonus mode called "Extra Crisis", which contained two bonus game modes; Dino Colosseum and Dino Battle(?). Which are a set of challenge modes in fixed arenas (Dino Colosseum lets you play as either characters or dinosaurs in an attempt to kill X amount of spawning enemies in a tiny arena, while Dino Battle is some sort of Versus mode, if I've understood things right)

Makes me think that it wouldn't be unlikely that this might be a more likely possibility for what this mode might've been intended to be like in Code: Veronica Complete/X.

Dino Crisis 2 came out the same year as the initial release of Code: Veronica (half a year-ish later, I think. C:V at the end of Q1 while DC2 came at the end of Q3 or something, so with C:VC/C:VX coming out about half a year after that again added with the relationship between Dino Crisis and Code: Veronica... Hmmx0rz possibilitiesx0rz?)
