Nice!
I remember reading somewhere that Rock Star gave Brian his blessing, since he made his own tools for the game, I'm a big GTA fan. ^_^'
Thanks for the heads up! |

Good to know. Thanks for dropping him a mail.
I haven't seen him in #nesdev for years -- not that he really needs to hang out there.
Regarding other NES developments, the homebrew NES gaming "scene" is pumping out more releases on a smaller scale recently; meaning casual games.
You may want to check out Sivak's releases on the NESdev board.
I'm also currently developing a NES game project and doing music for other up-and-coming NES releases.
Unfortunately, not much more information will be available to the public regarding the previous. |

You're very welcome
Also, I had no idea that there was a community for this sort of thing. Very interesting indeed.
Then again, I'm hopeless at coding of any sort in general. |

I thought it went down the drain so this is good news. |

What would be even more awesome is if this thing is compatible with hardware, and one of those websites sell cartridges of it. |

True, but I don't think it will. I recall reading on Brian Provinciano's site that the game would use a custom mapper which would be released along with it.
Still, great news, I was worried that this game could have gone vaporware. |

Bah, you know you guys would buy it if sold.
Thanks for the update! I thought this was dead! I heard rumors he got a job in the game biz and he had to stop or legal reasons (employer didn't want the liability or something).

Well, would it be feasible for the PowerPak to be upgraded to support his mapper? I know it does support mapper upgrades in general, but it would depend on whether the hardware itself can support it (see: MMC5). |

PowerPak and custom boards are more than possible.
Custom boards with custom mappers will be produced in the near future. Quote me on that.
PowerPak uses a Xilinx FPGA. Custom mapper binaries can be made by logically flowcharting with the software on the site.
Reverse engineering a mapper for PowerPak use is not easy or all that hard, but there is a real moral issue. Do you want classic game developers to be afraid of piracy too?
If not, respect them by buying their games and do not reverse engineer and pirate their games until a respectful amount of product fair play time has been allotted -- a few years at least.

(But in my opinion, cases like Beggar Prince and Airball are different. Someone should buy and dump an Airball cart. It's just UNROM.) |
