Some light shone on this mysterious unreleased game. The graphics are pretty good, though this is more or less just a regular Final Fight clone.
I also did some big updates to the Unreleased Games section on Snes Central. Click here for the list of updates. |

I remember Prime, and when hearing about the game, wondering why in the hell anyone would want to play a game based off it.
Malibu Comics was a huge reason I was an elitist anime/manga fag throughout middle/high school; the only thing I remotely liked with American comics were weird ass indie 'zine stuff. This was early/mid-90's so I could get away with it before the Pokemon boom hit.
I'd say "Thank you [deity] for this game being shit canned!" but considering the timeframe, it probably would have shared the same fate as the Spawn or WildCATS game anyway. But after reading this bit, at least it had a few minor things going for it that could have worked in some of the other Final Fight clones, like enemies' attacks doing damage upon one another. Great read, Evan. |

It's worthless if it doesn't contain the theme song from the Sega CD version. |

I forget, did I ever tell you that's Tim Follin on guitar? He told me during an interview a few years ago. |

If you did, I forgot. I didn't know he played guitar, but I guess it's a safe bet he's fluent on a few instruments. Has he come back to video games yet? |

Was that part of the published interview or did you just show that part to some people? It seems I remember Follin mentioning that they went the terrible/cheeseball composition route intentionally. |

So was there ever a second Prime game in development for the Super NES?
I ask because this ad from an EGM mentions both "Prime" and "Prime vs. Alligator Men." I suspect this was just sloppy exaggeration on Malibu's part, though the "Alligator Men" title has an inverted exclamation point. Perhaps it was intended for Spanish-speaking audiences.
Page 1 of the ad.
Page 2.
And because I couldn't stop scanning things today, here's the EGM piece on Malibu's Firearm and Strangers games. |
