I'm so glad there are people like Yuki out there that show some love for the FDS. If I'm not mistaken, this is the first time an unreleased FDS game has been leaked to the public. And it's an unreleased Square game no less! |

Isn't there a plug-in for that? |

AS FAR AS I KNOW the PowerPak supported FDS files since V1.20. To get the extra channel you'll need some modding if you are using a NES though. |

Oh durr, yes you're right! Forgot about that. Not concerned with the sound though. I tried it and it works, but how do you select the different weapons? Let me guess it used the keyboard? |

I believe so. I really didn't expect to see this leaked to the public. This game is a lot harder than the MSX version so far. Nearly all the enemies jump out at you with no reaction time, and its pretty annoying how their exploded carcasses when you kill them actually damage you. Still pretty fascinating to play so far.
Edit: This game also has doors that take you back to the beginning of the level. How nice. This is one I don't think I'll be playing without save states nearby. |

Some fun stuff to know:
The game is.. technically five stages long: The outdoor stage getting into weird space facility thing, and then four stages of That One Stage from Monster Party, with the doors and the stupid. The boss of each stage is the same alien, with one 8x8 tile that you can hit somewhere in the center of its neck. There is an ending, it's just... disappointing.
You change weapons by... picking up different weapons. There's... I think five? Twin Shot, Serbo Rifle, Smart Gun, Fire Gun, and Wave Gun.
Boots increase your jumping ability, up to a maximum of three times. (The third time is for "Almost playable!") Additionally, if you jump straight up and then hold up, you can sort of wheeze out a little spinning jump at the apex. This will save your ass more often than not.
I can prolly do up screenshots for which doors to take -- I've beaten the game twice while cheating like a bastard. D:
Speaking of:
0429 = your health in RAM. Set this to 08 and never lose or gain health again!
042A = your lives. Set this to 10 and also never worry about gaining or losing lives!
I don't know what address your health is for bossfights, but it's different than the regular health bar.
I hope this information is useful. D: |

I don't usually ask for much out of an Nes ending. I'm just glad the game at least ends with Ripley reuniting with Newt, as opposed to the game just giving you a blank screen saying "Congratulation. You are super!" or whatever to that effect. I was half expecting the latter kind of ending to be honest.
Well I managed to finish it and I gotta say apart from the floaty controls, the very awkward jumping physics, the questionable hit detection, the doors that lead you backwards, and the very cheap boss battles the game is...
well, crap. Or at least mediocre if I'm feeling generous.
I still enjoyed playing through it cause I'm weird like that. And I did like some of the music. I think most of Square's Nes games were composed by Nobuo Ueumatsu at the time, though I dunno if he had a hand in this. |

I see him credited with the "PC" version, but I can't find it. I don't know if that went unreleased, too. |

Might PC just be referring to the MSX? |

I just noticed his profile says "PC." You're probably right. I don't see anything about a PC-88 version. |

Awesome. Totally awesome. This has been a good year for the FDS so far. Perhaps we'll get lucky and Nobunaga will be next?

I personally want to see that FDS Air Fortress prototype with the weird intro text more than anything else. :P |

Why is this game referred to as "not for sale" on some of those "rarest FC lists"? Is this an unreleased prototype or an extremely limited release? |

If I had one complaint, it's that there aren't enough doors in the game.
Here's the ending:

047F (set to 10).
Not that I cheated, of course...
(Thanks, Yuki.) |

There are hidden paths in levels 1 and 2 (as in the actual inside, numbered levels, not counting the intro level) that let you bypass the boss entirely, has anyone found one in 3 or 4?
Also is there a way to crawl under passages other than holding diagonal-down and hammering on the jump button? |
