Having recently started playing the Fire Emblem series, I was kinda curious if there has ever been any efforts by Nintendo to release the series in the west before the GBA games. Has there been any hints or mentions of the series, perhaps even suggestions that some of the Famicom or Super Famicom games might've been planned to be localized in older magazines or the like? |

I know Nintendo Power had an article on Seisen no Keifu back in the day. Accoridng to an online check, Volume 87 should have the article on it. |

Out of curiosity, I dug out that issue and found the article. It ends by saying that there aren't any plans to release a Fire Emblem game in English. Oh well.
As far as I know, the first piece of Fire Emblem that came to North America was some terrible anime. |

Would be nice to see the anime, even if it's terrible.
But it looks like it's not legally released on DVD, since all I see are ebay sellers selling bootleg DVD transfersof the legal VHS releases and then try to excuse it by saying "Don't buy it unless you own the original." :P
(I guess after Nintendo decided to start releasing the games in English, it became more expensive to license?) |

Well, it's on YouTube if you're that curious. There's a lower-quality subtitled version as well.
Yes, it's terrible, but not memorably so. It's just terrible in that bland, cliched, unremarkable way that describes so much anime.
Dub's got its moments, though. IT IS A TIME BEFORE TIME. |
