|
|
Hello, the story goes like this:
I was procrastinating some homework and reading an old EGM (It's missing some pages, so I don't know exactly the month it is from, but i remember it has a SNES on the cover) and looking at the 1991 CES report, and I saw some pics of the upcoming megaman4 wich had megaman fighting some odd piramyd robot while standing on a round rock, and also a weird enemy select screen with those annoying enemies that hide in a helmet instead of robot masters, and some Japanese text.
Anyways, I turned some of the pages and saw a list of upcoming NES games, and i was amazed by finding a LOTR screenshot!
So, does anyone know if these two are out somewhere?? |

I remember the MM4 pics you're referring to (the odd boss-select screen part, anyway), but I don't recall the LotR part. I'm pretty sure I still have this issue though, so I'll see if I can hunt it down and get a scan. |

thanx, I found the mag, but my computer broke down and im on my GF's laptop so i cant scan anything until I fix it, but if you have the issue, the LOTR part is on page 112, it has a pic of someone I assume is Gandalf walking on some road, and gandalf and frodo sitting near a fireplace.
The MM4 part is on page 44, and if i'm not mistaken, I think that one of the first pages (before page 18) had a pic of Megaman fighting the first boss of Final FIght, I dont use drugs so im sure i saw it, but im not sure where, i know it's most definetly a mock up but stilll an interesting pic. |

Someone, I think BMF, took a look at the MM4 dump and found no traces of that pyramid robot thing. Too bad. |

Actually, I did, but just the sprite parts...the rest of it is long gone.
(Ignore the bee)
The rock, snake, and spark all belong to the lost sphinx. I'm not sure what the other two little pieces are...the curved part is probably the sphinx's beard or something.
The programming for this mini-boss might still exist, but since I have zero knowledge of how MM4 enemy data works, I can't check for myself. |

If you put the first part on top of the other one it certainly looks like it (including a small part of the chin).

By the by, the LOTR programmer has confirmed that no copies of the game have survived. Take that for what it's worth. |

Did that programmer happen to be a she? I talked through email with a woman about 7 or 8 years ago about the game, but I don't remember if she was the programmer or someone else working on the game. |

A guy, I think. I didn't talk to him, Wilson did. He told us horrible stories about taking unreleased games outside, getting a mirror, and blasting the data off with concentrated sunlight.
I haven't slept the same since. |

Good grief! Nor shall I... What would possess him to do such a thing?
And say... it wouldn't be developed by the same group that did SNES LotR, would it? |

Probably already know this, but that game later came out on the MSX.

Yes, the woman I talked to years ago told me they had the NES version pretty much complete, but then were told to just concentrate on the SNES version. Apparently the SNES version comes directly from the NES framework. |

Well, that's how they erased the game before doing a new build. I can just kind of imagine that's how the game died for good, but who knows. |
