Donated. Is there a news archive with all the old updates, or am I just imagining the post I thought I read about Penn & Teller themselves donating? |

I donated, but i sent it straight to Child's Play in their names. It seems kind of cruel to make them play that game for a week straight... |

Yeah, Penn and Teller donated $1500, as well as a meal from Subway. |

Jesus Moshpitting Christ! When I checked yesterday before leaving work they were up to $16,000. I check this morning, and it's jumped to $21,000!
And to think I was impressed that they met their goal of $5,000 |

Hello everybody!
First -time poster
I was just wondering, is the first torrent any good? I saw some doubt of it in the messages, so can anyone tell me if it is of any good? |

Donated $40, and spent about 15 hours (non-consecutive) hangin out watching the feed and chatting on IRC. What a great weekend. Very fun and for such a great cause. |

Pretty awesome that they raised all that money, but I'm still a little disappointed that they ended up crashing the bus so much. Would've been hilarious if they got a game score into the double digits.
anyways.... I'd still like to attempt to do a partial walkthrough for the Smoke & Mirrors portion of the game, but it's still not worth attempting to play through again in the first place until there's a Sega CD emulator with savestates. (there still isn't one out there yet, right?) |

hasn't been updated since early 2006 :\
edit: after investigating the matter a little further, I've discovered that Gens 9.5 appears to have Sega CD savestates, but I don't know how reliable it is. Stay tuned! |

Welp, I've been replaying the Smoke and Mirrors game over the last couple of days, and attempting to document everything into a walkthrough/FAQ. Problem is, I've gotten stuck at the same point I was before, I think.
I got the stethoscope from the tattooed guy and bearded lady, so I'm guessing I need to use it somewhere next to make any progress. I've been scouring each level for anything I might have missed (or might have magically changed), but can't find anything. By exploring more of Stinkbomb & Rot's mansion, I've found a closed double door, and a path the game doesn't seem to want to let me to take (??).
I'm just curious if anyone has gotten past this part and knows what to do next. Or should I just post my work-in-progress walkthrough, and possibly upload one of my savestates, in case anyone wants to just skip ahead without playing through it? |

Well, that's not too far off from where I am now.
The birthday cake is of course purchaseable from the very beginning of the game at Tom's Bakery in New York. Although you can buy one of four cakes here, the game doesn't really seem to differentiate from any of them in any way? Just buy the cake at the beginning, hold on to it until you find that crying woman after the basement maze, give it to her and her daughter comes back. You're given mustache wax, and then you have to go back to the Carnival and give it to Hubert the tattoo guy. He'll take it over to Lydia the bearded lady, and she finally falls in love with Hubert and then you're given the stethoscope.
And that's where I am now. Still no clue where it should be used. |

Oh! I was going through the darkened halls looking for the little girl. It sounds to me like maybe you're missing something within those halls? |

Not sure if what I'm missing is in the darkened basement - you need the wax head on Teller's inventory to see the paths in there. The stethoscope goes into Teller's inventory too, so you'd need to unequip the wax head and go back to walking around in darkness, which would be kinda annoying... I think that basement doesn't serve that much of a purpose other than to be maze-like and get you seriously confused, especially if you haven't gotten the wax head yet. There didn't seem to be anybody particularly noteworthy anywhere in there.
I'm not ready to post my FAQ yet, so here's a savestate of where I currently am:
http://bbh.marpirc.net/pennteller.zip
Hopefully it'll work just fine when extracted to the same folder as Gens 9.5. Which I should also link to:
http://upthorn.mspencer.net/Gens_9.5b.zip
EDIT: HOLY CRAP I FINALLY FIGURED OUT SOMETHING. You have to push Up when you're in front of the "poster" on the right. It reveals a hidden safe - you need the stethoscope to figure out the code. Move the knob to the right until you hear a beep, then to the left until you hear another beep, then back to the right, and press C after you hear the third beep. HOORAY.
EDIT 2: That door leads to the area with the "last boss". HOLY SHIT, I FINISHED THE GAME. But um, unless I did something wrong, that's a pretty shitty ending. All this time spent wondering about the ending and THAT'S the big payoff... sigh.
