With the announcement (and actual footage!) of GokuMakaiMura/ "Extreme Ghouls'n Ghosts" for the PSP, these memories of games that could have been have come flooding back.
I remember reading an article awhile back (on IGN of all places) that mentioned one of their reporters actually saw the game in action. Does anyone know anything else about this lost game?
How about this gem: Ghouls'n Ghosts Online, which had been announced to virtually no fanfare whatsoever, and has quietly been cancelled after virtually no information, no returned emails, etc.
O.k. One more request. Is anyone familiar with the prototype of SGnG for the SNES? I remember way back seeing a picture of it in an old EGM...it had different monsters and a different level layout. A similar discrepancy may occur when GokuMakaiMura is completed.
On a side note. I am already familiar with The Ghoul Realm, which has pretty much the only esoteric information on the web on any of these games anymore...I expect that to change in the coming months.

There's a page about the GnG Online in the Ghoul Realm,
http://www.geocities.com/theghoulrealm3/gngol.html
Anyway, I heard there were actually two Online GnG games that got scrapped.
One of them was an RPG which starred Arthur's son and the other was a more conventional platform game that allowed you to play as characters from the series (including Prin Prin and Red Arremer).
The second version was being developed by a Taiwanese company called Rava, but their website went down. Thankfully, Web Archive managed to salvage some of the content.

The second one looks so much like your average fanboy hoax. |

The average fanboy wouldn't waste their time on Ghouls'n Ghosts hoaxes, but I could see that the lackluster presentation (broken images don't help) would leave that impression.
However, Rava had several iterations of that website, including, for a very short time, a Flash-based frontend with coffins that would drop down hanging skeletons (with some sort of "rag-doll" effect) for each section of the site...I think it orignally linked to the sparse page that Johnny Undaunted referred to.

At first I thought the title on the upper-right corner of that poster said GHOULS 2 GHOSTS which sounds like it would be an awesome urban direct-to-video release along the lines of VAMPIYAZ and ZOMBIEZ. |

Believe it or not, it's because of the art style, not the subject matter :P Kinda dark, earthy colors, and not super detailed.. but just detailed enough.
I'd love to see the piece that those four headshots at the bottom are from, looks like a group shot, but I don't think it would compare. |

I would guess the penciler and the painter were different people. If you really look at the character design, it's kind of...I don't know. Typical. But the paint job is pretty neat. |

With breasts that aren't way too big and faces that aren't making weird, contorted expressions.. kinda. Madureira fucks with me, his name just invokes thoughts of Red Monika, and ugh. |
