I don't know about that, but these forums are going to start charging $9.95 to sign up pretty soon, and then a quarter for every post made. All because we're using a .org. I want to throw it back in The Man's face. |

I hope that works well with the Zelda games. My CDi's memory died before being able to buy and play Zelda's Adventure. The only solution is to resolder the battery clock chip thingy (not a technical term). Or buy another one.
This could save some time and money.
Also, I managed to get hold of SMWW beta, which the text file says was purchased and released by TRE, among others. In which case, many thanks. The game, along with interviews of those behind the game (found on some website), proved very interesting. Though most levels flicker like hell due to me owning a PAL system. |

Yeah, that was done by Lost Levels before we actually called ourselves Lost Levels.
The two main Zelda games sort of work, Zelda's Adventure does not. |

Thanks for the confirmation. I was thinking ZA wouldn't work, since the author hasn't quite perfected emulation of the video card (which ZA apparently needs). |

And for what it's worth, Hotel Mario works, but I get a dirty disc error sometimes. |

The memory battery is actually soldered in place? How forward-thinking of them. |

I actually opened the system up, and it's not so much that the battery is soldered to the board, rather that it has been fused into some kind of memory timer clock chip (not a techy term). It looks like a big cuboid lump of black plastic. You can't replace the battery inside. The full procedure involves desoldering said chip, and then soldering a replacement back in. Replacements can still be bought, since supposedly it's a fairly generic "MK48T08B-15 ST NV-ram timekeeper" chip. Whatever the hell that is.
My automatic thoughts were "screw that!"
And so I plan to just buy a new machine if the emu is still crippled at this early stage.
There is also no kind of memory card for the CD-i, which is very annoying.
I think this topic deals with replacing the chip:

(new chips also need to be programmed it says. More trouble than it's worth really) |

That's pretty horrible. Sega used battery backup for the Sega CD (and the Saturn, although there are also memory cartridges for that), but at least they let you replace it when it dies! |
