You know, I was thinking the same thing myself after reading it again.
The FF3J remake on DS is supposed to have some upgraded features, maybe they'll be taking inspiration from the SIGGRAPH demo?
(highly unlikely...) |

It's recently come to light that, in addition to wonderful 3D graphics and rumors of a "defense bar" system, the can also be played through using only the stylus (you don't HAVE to, but you can). So you may be on to something.
"FF64" hasn't really aged well - there so many strange little oddities about it that are kind of off even for a mock-up. But it's interesting to see the first of some of the aesthetic qualities we would see in FF7 (and 8 and so on), such as those kooky enemy attacks, the over-the-top physical attacks by your party, and the majestic summon entrances.
Watching the end, though....it makes me wonder if we can keep going with the ideas presented in X and XII, and make summons even more part of the world - allowing you to ride on Bahamut, data Shiva, or cuddle with Doomtrain. |

Oddly, when the controller for the Revolution was first announced, one of the online reviews mentioned it would be a wonderful idea to draw shapes on the screen or wave a wand to execute magic.
[reserves some space for the quote, just in case]
For whatever reason, it seems like it is almost inevitable. |

What's ironic about FF3j is, is really does look like a N64 game...
"SEX USA", that has to be best Squeenix joke I've heard yet.

Snooped around some old press material junk I had on some CDs.
Don't think I saw this picture in the picture package you had up.
(might be a few others too, too lazy to go on a compare/checklist rampage now)

Yeah... the lack of proper eyes + the fact that she looks like one of those wood/plastic figures you could get years ago, standing on like some sort of pedestal with a button on the back, and if you hit the button, the wires inside it would loosen up and the whole thing would collapse and when you release the button, the wires would tighten up again, making the figure assemble again. |

Only the first two images I posted were from that disc.
The video was taken from a Japanese Sampler/Demo disc for Final Fantasy VII.
And the last picture I posted was dug out of an old CD I had with a bunch of old press junk, besides that one image. |

Ah, remember SQUARE's beautiful SIGGRAPH demo (GF Vol.3 Iss. 10)? Though it wasn't the Nintendo64 game everyone assumed it to be, it still holds a valuable spot in FF history as the most direct ancestor of FF VII's battle system. Believe it or not, it's actually a pretty cool (and totally playable) little game. Instead of the usual menu system, you control your characters by drawing shapes (a star for magic for example) with the mouse. Maybe SQUARE will send you a copy if you buy an Onyx... (or maybe not)

Sounds like an idea they could possibly use in a DS title. |
Let's just quote something terribly old while bringing out a little something that was brought to my attention recently.
A friend of mine sent me a copy of a Squaresoft disc with another Siggraph video. Don't remember ontop of my head if it was 96 or 97.
It shows a Chocobo riding/battle game (somewhat of a VS Battlezone clone, but with Chocobos to ride instead of tanks)
Controls for it are motion detection based, by moving your hands and doing various hand/fist gestures within a little "zone area".
I'll see if I can stitch together the controls panel thingy seen in the video + get the video up later too.
[edit]
Added some pics;
Two quick "in-game" shots
Controller "area":
A poorly stitched together image of the "how-to" for the controllers.
I'll see if I can upload the video when I recieve my original copy of the disc with it later. (currently only got a rip)
[Edit2]
Okay, got it confirmed with people at home that a few huge ass packages full of junk has arrived for me to find junk in.
Unfortunately, a little wizard with a scar and a pair of glasses has got some unfinished business with me for the next month, so I wont be able to touch the package 'till then. But I'll try to remember + see if I can put up the FFVI video again too in a 1:1 quality of it's original source, instead of that terrible WMV I did earlier. |
