He's a poor mountaineer, barely keeps his family fed. |

Not that I'd know, but I bet there's barely a game in there.
I am so glad Xtreme never got released. Not that I'm glad a dude got sick working on it, that sucks. |

Dam I find the game so fascinating now that I wish there was a way to play a beta version from every month of it's existence. If only we Americans could create more ambitious games like this. Sonic X-Treme symbolizes so much design ambition, work stress, and a PC game being converted to an actual console system. God I wish I could have it all. |

Erm... Star Control 2?
American? As American as... apple pie? Chewing tobacco? Big cars? Whatever. But, check!
Ambitious? Check.
Work Stress? Well, the guys worked for 6 months without pay, one of them taking a bank loan to finance the completion. Plus they worked 16 hour days, 7 days a week in the final month. So... check!
PC game converted to console? Check. Ported to 3DO. Then it was ported BACK to the PC and is now available for free.
Plus, it's awesome.
Didn't some guy do a wiki on the Sonic Xtreme fiasco? God, I read 20 pages, each from TWO different forums, quite a saga really. Ironic considering the history of the game. A fascinating development. I never saw the vids though. Anyone care to PM me with directions? Preferrably not a torrent. |

That particular version of the game, anyway. The one based on the NiGHTS engine had a much better chance of total and complete ownage.
Also, I don't know much technically about the Saturn and the data layout on the disc, but if the image I saw was accurate, there was less than 1MB of data on the disc (not counting any possible CDDA tracks). |

The last image here. It shows two files, "0" at 768KB and "1" at 9KB. Now, I know absolutely nothing about Saturn hardware, so I have no idea if that image is accurate or not. |

Don't data files sometimes hide themselves when being displayed on a CD? Or is it different with Saturn? Hmm...I can see all of the NiGHTs files, appearantly.
In addition, I've heard that SOMEONE does in fact possess the PC version of Sonic X-treme but won't release it...yet.
What a shame. |

Who knows maybe SEGA will release it after finding out what a cult hit it is. |

Sure, it has to happen eventually if you talk about it enough on the internet. Just like how the Apextreme got a release date announced last week. |

Or the fact that the 3D action/adventure genre is stale and Sega hasn't made a real hit on other peoples' consoles since... When has that happened? |

They brought back Sonic The Fighters and ever considered bringing back SEGA Sonic the arcade game, but left it out only for the lack of a track ball. |

Sonic the Fighters was a real game that was finished and playable, Sonic X-Treme is a big stack of design documents and a 3D engine. But if you clap your hands and believe in fairies, maybe that will change! |
