I love reading the story of Sonic X-Treme. It is an inspiration to me. Where else can I find fascinating articles about the interal affairs of video game companies? |

"Game Over" by David Sheff. It's like a whole book on the subject. |

The postmortems in Game Developer magazine would be right up your ally. Plus, I work there and sometimes contribute to the mag!
I used to do a really awesome weekly column on Gamasutra.com called "Playing Catch-Up," which I think you might enjoy too. Here's a few choice cuts:
David Crane's David Crane
Bill "The Game Doctor" Kunkel
Sierra On-Line founder Ken Williams
And on that note, Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe.
There are lots more too, just go to Gamasutra, click on "Search," and search the news archives for "Playing Catch-Up." I kind of cancelled this column for the new year, because it's just too much damned work, but it had a good run. |

Thanks a lot. I am realizing now that one reason why I find your site's Sonic X-Treme article so fascinating is because it regards a time in which video games were in transistion and the age of negative games like Grand Theft Auto, and hyper addictive games like Ever Quest would eventually be born. |

Daniel, before GTA and EQ there was Mortal Kombat and, um, Tetris. Wow, saying that makes me feel like an old grandpa or something. |

Tetris for the Game Boy alone was responsible for 40,000 murder-suicides and Britney Spears's eventual rise to fame, and some researchers say the fumes given off by decaying first-gen carts are a major contributor to global warming and skin cancer.
I'm sorry, did you say something about GTA? |

Show some respect for Mortal Kombat. It was the first fighting game that wasn't a rip off of Street Fighter. I remember SEGA's embarassing Burning Rivals. A game so embarassing to SEGA that they wrote it out of their history.
Also Tetris is awesome. |

I'm not disrespecting either. I'm just saying that there were games percieved as "negative" before GTA, and "addictive" games before EQ. Hell, you could say all games are percieved as "negative" by a percentage of the (U.S.) population. |

If only those same skeptics could have seen how much worse things were going to get with the advent of 3D. |

Are you saying that 3D games are inherently more violent than 2D games?
If so you're pretty much completely wrong, as no game has ever been as RETARDEDLY VIOLENT as Bloodstorm.
Or are you saying that you just hate 3D games SO MUCH GRRRRRR WHERE MY SPRITES AT?
I can't tell, Mr. BMS |

Actually I am just saying that 3D games have the ability to create large immersive worlds. That is how games like Ever Quest and GTA are possible. |

No, that's not what you said at all.
EDIT: Oh, hell with it, you're banned. Go somewhere else. |
