In the US version of FF II for SNES, on the moon inside of the Crystal castle where you meet Fusoya, there is an HP/MP/Status recovery thingies on the left an the right just at the entrance. When i go to the left one (if i remember correctly) just one block before the healing block and press A, i go into a battle with a RedGiant?!?

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS?

I hope you pros can explain this to me...

EDIT: Here is a Zsnes savestate near the place in question: http://www.zophar.net/zsnes/archive/ff2-e.zip (pick the 6th save)

Oh yeah, I remember finding that too. I don't think it has any purpose, though you can use it to your advantage as a consistent way of fighting RedGiants if you're trying to get the Runeaxe.

Cocidnetally (mispelled, I know), I'm in that place right now... I can make a video of it!

EDIT: Okay... I didn't make an .AVI file because those are too big, so here: http://www.freewebs.com/flarenuke/FinalFantasyII.smv . Yes, It seems to be like a dummied treasure chest that was not completely taken out...

Apparently there are a bunch of spots in the game where if you hit A you get a hidden treasure, or a predetermined battle. I have no idea how many exist, since to find out you'd have to hit A on every single spot in the game. Ugh.

This page shows some locations:

The big question is...

was it intentional?

That is cool as hell. Am I correct in assuming these are not present in the GBA remake?

Well I just checked now and the one in the Crystal Palace isn't there, so I'm going to guess that they're not in the GBA version.

I'm going to say "yes" because the screenshots from the previously linked webpage shows an english hack of FFIV.

Finally got FF4A, and playing it.
One thing I noticed thus far is that the hidden path along the bottom of Antlion's Den B2 isn't there.
And I've heard that a hidden treasure chest (which I never even knew about) in the blacksmith's house was deleted/omitted.
