No, I will not leak it. I would never dump anything I've paid so much. I can do every community dump you ask, but I am not interested in losing money.

My favourite system is the Genesis and one of my favourite games was Desert Strike.
All I know about Beirut Breakout is that it appeared on a brochure by EA in 1991, before Desert Strike was released.
So I think that Beirut Breakout may not be an unreleased game, but a not-yet-censored Desert Strike.
And that's why I went for it.
It should arrive in few days. As soon as it comes, I'll post pics and infos. I'll dump it but I doubt I'll release it for free.

Please be patient and excuse me.

Nicola (Parafang)

(btw I wasn't registered in your wonderful forum! There are really few forums I check, and yours is one of them! I should write more.)

I could throw a few bucks towards a dump of it I guess. I think around $100, if it's only a beta like you said.

I start thinking that I have special powers Very Happy
I've received the cart today, and guess what!
It's a beta of Desert Strike!!!!

So the original name was Beirut Breakout!!!

As for differences, I didn't check yet with the released one, but it's unnecessary: no music, graphic glitches, the last mission doesn't exist (looks like a random map put togheter on a hurry). It's clearly a beta, a preliminary version.
Unluckly there is no title screen (you start from option screen) so the name is just on the cart. I didn't manage to mess with this enough. As soon as I can I'll dump it and give screenshots.

Really interesting for me. Beirut Breakout! Aka Desert Strike!

Ok, I've tested it a bit. The 4th and last level has no end. It has just a small map with 2 enemies and then you land near a bunker, an enemy approaches and start firing at you withouth hitting you and you can't move.
During the game the world "Beirut" appears on the briefing at least once.

But there is one problem: I can dump it with a backup device, but, since EPROMs are socketed, I prefere to dump with my willem programmer.
The chips are not on the willem list:

Toshiba
TC574000D-150
Japan 9049EAK
VPP 12.5V

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Interesting! Beirut is the capital of Lebanon, which I don't think Desert Strike took place in. Is the story dramatically different, then? Maybe it was written before the Gulf War took place, and they changed the story to cash in on it?

This beta is from 28/10/1991. Anyway I will transcribe all the briefings.

Ok, I did some research and here's what I found:

Part Number = TC574000D150
Description = UV-Erasable PROM (EPROM) - 5V +-10% Vcc
Manufacturer = Toshiba
Number of Words = 512k
Bits Per Word = 8
t(a) Max. (s) Access Time = 150n
Output Config = 3-State
Number of Chip Selects = 2
Program Voltage (V) = 12.5
Nom. Supp (V) = 5.0
Package = DIP
Pins = 32
Technology = CMOS

This means you should treat it as a 27c4001 from NEC [edit: looks like Willem doesn't support 27c4001, you could try M27C4001 from ST I guess] (if that fails, try 27C040 from Intel or AMD).

Btw, the chip(s) are 512k*8, which means they are 512 kilobytes each.

So yea, you can try this, or if that fails I could assist you in dumping the cart using some backup utility or other Megadrive dumping methods I guess.

If you have anymore questions, you could PM or email me I guess.

Did it, and data verification was ok.

I've checked the files with an HEX Editor but I didn't find anything. Anyone can tell me where to find a good program to join the two bins in one to try it on an emulator?
Thanks!

BTW Beirut should be the name of the pilot...and it's full of differences. I'm playing with the game these days. Sounds, missions, maps...but passwords seems to work

Shouldn't just a commandline text like this do the trick just fine ?

copy /b inputfile1.bin+inputfile2.bin outputfile.bin
