What can you all tell me about the Disk Fax prize versions of Golf Japan Course and Golf US Course for the FDS? I'd welcome any kind of help, like how the games differ from the retail versions, the details of the contests, anything. I've heard so much contradicting information while researching these that I'm starting to doubt even typically reliable sources like |tsr.

Errr.. I've never played the retail version, but I own the US course version. If you have any SPECIFIC questions, I can probably answer them.

So, you have the gold Golf US Course FDS disk? Is the player character Mario like on the regular disk? I've heard in some places that he was replaced with a female character on the gold version.

I'd really like to know if the layout of the holes was changed, but I guess you can't answer that without having played the regular version.

Yeah, I know it's Mario on the regular Golf US Course disk, I was wondering if a different character is used on the gold Golf US Course disk.

Oh, the blue (purple?) one is the common one? Thats the one I have, I didn't know if that was normal or not. Every other FDS game I have is yellow, so I figured it might be unusual

Every game that was part of a Disk Fax contest came on a blue disk rather than a yellow one, so yeah, you've got the regular version there. The version given out as a contest prize is on a gold disk. By gold I mean shiny gold, like the Zelda NES cartridge, not plain yellow like most FDS disks.

I took some good scans of the disks and the cases if you want me to post them.

Sorry for the necromancy but I just found this and remembered this thread:

This page shows the differences between the versions of the Japanese Course, while this one shows the differences for the US Course.

You can see clear differences in the title screens, so I hope this helps.

I got an email from the guy that let me dump his Golf prize cards yesterday. He said the Rom for one of the games stopped working. Shocked Gives him Err.27 now. Anybody ever heard of such a thing happening? Any idea why?

If the game wrote to the image to, say, save a score, it could have changed something to give him that error now. Did he say which game was giving him the problem? Normally, saving to the image shouldn't corrupt anything, but that copy of US Course was a bad dump to begin with. If that's the one giving him trouble, it doesn't come as much of a surprise.

Yep, That;s the one. If that's what happenned, that sucks...that means the substituted save file wasn't perfect after all.

Well, looks like another source for that disk is needed (if that is indeed the problem). Sucks.
