So is it sad that I found out Frank updated the front page by seeing a link from somewhere else? (Press The Buttons in this case) My bookmark for Lost Levels is to the forums, since reading the front page here with it's once a quarter updates was not something I ever remember to do.
Nice, now let's hope there is a community purchase, or a benevolent soul who buys it... |

We are not kids! I also would not have known if our former president hadn't spoken up.
(really I don't have an RSS reader and Firefox's "live bookmarks" thing is kinda gay) |

Smeg - Use Sage in Firefox. It's the only reason I use RSS, as I hated the idea of another program open to do what I wanted in a browser.
TRE - Yay. The RSS feed was broken for so long I took it off my reader and forgot about trying it again. Go FEEDS! |

OK now what do I use it for? It's not like the LL front page will be updated again this year. |

All the other news-posty sites that you visit every day or so. |

Livejournal displays an RSS icon on my friends page, but it's actually just the feed for my own page. Man how useless is that |

I like keeping RSS feeds in my Safari bookmarks bar because it puts a little number of how many unread articles there are for my feeds next to it. This is great for my Gmail, because noone likes to check their Gmail just to find that nothings been sent to you . Also all my geeknews sites. |

So do I need to mention that I posted news to the front page again? |

Yes. The RSS feed isn't telling me it's there. But nice update! |

The RSS feed showed it for me. Is the address you're using for the feed lostlevels.org/rss.php? If I recall, the address changed a bit back, and I noticed that I wasn't getting updates until I changed the address in my bookmarks.
On the other hand, it looks like from what you've said in this thread that you added it just earlier this week. |

Yes, because I am totally RSSing the forum but not the front page. Also, damn I want that game. |

Then you're doing something wrong. The front page feed works.

The point of RSS is to tell you when a site updates, so you don't have to check for yourself. It's probably even more useful for sites that don't update all that often. :P |

Now my old "feed" is showing the new update - I was using the feed I got by clicking the little "feed" icon that Firefox now shows for pages where it finds feeds and it gave me this link - http://lostlevels.org/wordpress/?feed=rss2
I replaced it with the - lostlevels.org/feed.php for the future though, since thats the one that seems to work well. |

Yeah, but...how is checking an RSS feed obsessively better than checking a website obsessively? That's what I haven't figured out yet. |

The only feed url linked on the front page (and obtained from the feed icon in the url bar) is http://lostlevels.org/wordpress/?feed=rss2, I dunno where you're getting feed.php from. |

Buh? You subscribe to a bunch of feeds and you check your application for new posts regularly.
If you only want to subscribe to feeds with sporadic updates, use an application that will notify you with a popup or something when it's got new posts.
Christ, RSS isn't rocket science. |

I'm not asking how it works - I know that. I just don't see how it saves me any time. I guess it's just one of those "your mileage may vary" deals. |

Buncha posts in the same place, formatted the same, easier to skim, less having to load sites because it's all already loaded (and downloaded!) for you. Mileage may vary for sure, but I know I wouldn't be visiting lostlevels' front page ever if it weren't for the feed. No site is worth manually checking for updates months apart! |
