(even though he eventually changed his name to the Trapster)

/
/

At least, I assume that's why he was changed into Hydro-Man between the "alpha" and commercial versions of that rather bad SNES Spider-Man game based on the animated series.

Not quite as depressing is the change of the Wrecker into another one of the generic Halo-looking sword guys.

->

I don't know who this guy is, but he eventually became this other guy, I guess?

->

These hawks aren't in the final game, and oddly enough, neither is this particular mechanical spider:

/

The patriotic message is a bit altered from alpha to final...

->

For some reason, a character who I believe is Vermin gew hair between alpha and final.

/
/

But the absolute best find in the original alpha is not a haircut. Rather, it's the robot you fight while in Doc Ock's labs.

In the final version, it's kind of goofy:

/

In the alpha version, it's fucking Silvermane, bitch. And when you beat him, HIS BRAIN FALLS OUT.

/

.....

anyway.

Wow. I'd be pissed if I was actually a fan of that game, they edited or replaced a bunch of characters that are perfect for a Spider-Man game. I wonder if it was because of goofy licensing reasons or something.

That guy you can't figure out is a Guardsman, and he really doesn't have any place as a bad guy in a video game (unless, you know, it's the first crazy Guardsman, but that's more of a Iron Man thing.. yeah).

Paste Pot Pete/Trapster is the kind of douche that was made for Spidey to beat up on, and Silvermane just looks badass.

Also, fuck Hydro-Man.

Wow. Another awesome prototype is found sitting in the Good sets. When will these discoveries end?

I actually prefered that game to the one Acclaim put out at the same time.

Not to bump a thread that nobody gives a fuck about, but I was just rereading this and noticed that 'generic halo-looking sword guy' is probably Radioactive Man (Chen Lu). At least, that's a guess. And it makes no sense because he wasn't really a Spidey villain anyway.

edit: and, uh, that mechanical spider could be a Spider-Slayer, but that could be giving them too much credit.

So did Vermin ever have hair, or did they just change him into a generic guy by adding some?

The Vermin edit turned him into a generic bad guy. He has always looked the same in the comics.
