I was reading the Metal Gear Solid and 3DO articles at the Japanese Wikipedia site and it appears that Kojima originally planned his third Metal Gear game for the 3DO (the original title would've been Metal Gear 3 rather than Metal Gear Solid).

I always suspected as such, since there were concept artwork of Snake and Meryl, as well as the FOXHOUND crew, by Shinkawa in the Policenauts Pilot Disc for the 3DO (later released for the PS as Policenauts: Private Collection), but it seems that Kojima actually confirmed this fact in his podcast (Hidechan Radio).

What about that cancelled Spacenauts game for the 3DO?
What was that about?
It looked like a "sequel" to Snatcher and Policenauts.

Spacenauts was just mistranslation of Policenauts that EGM used (which they clarified in a later issue). Same thing with "Police Notes", which GameFan used.

Metal Gear on 3DO would of made the system interesting.

Damn to bad it never came out. There might actually be a game to play on this system.

The 3DO actually has a few games worth playing.
At the very least much more than the Jaguar or CDI.

And thanks for that scan Johnny. That clears it up. For years I tried to find info on that game and it looked like as if I was the only one that knew about it because no one gave me a straight answer.
Now I see it was just a mistranslation.

Most of the few worthwhile 3DO games were later ported to other platforms. The only ones I can think of offhand are Super SF2 Turbo (which also came out as part of SF Collection 1 for the PS and Saturn) and Policenauts (ported to the PS and Saturn too).

Lucienne's Quest is a pretty decent RPG. The 3DO one was the only version that came out in America (The other version being for Saturn in Japan). Gex is also really fun but that game got ported to other consoles as well.

I wouldn't know the only Gex I've played is on my 3DO.

Super turbo for 3DO is a terrible port.

Missing animations, no old versions, cheap combos return, lame.

Is this true? I have the PS Private Collection- Is it on that version, too? If you know where it is/which menu it's on, I can rip the TIMS off of the disk and post the artwork for all to see.

Its on the virtual glossary the game has. You have to look for FOXHOUND as a keyword and click on the "picture".

That artwork is very reminiscient of the MGS series artwork. It's pretty obvious early concepts of the next metal gear were quite different. Except meryl and snake, it looks to be a entirely new cast.

Yep. They were in the 3DO Pilot Disk too, which came out in 1995.
