Hello. I'm playing Makai Island for the first time, and I can't seem to find the old man who tells you to go ahead to "Death Island". Can someone please tell me how to find him?
Also, is "Death Island" the nickname of Dukuro Island? Thank you in advance. |

I checked GameFAQs, and it turned out Odino made an error. He should have said "Cuck Island", instead of "Doku Island".
Now, I have a new problem. I just finished the Ghost Ship, and I can't seem to escape the green ship with the old man to continue my adventure. I keep getting pulled back in. Please tell me how to solve this problem. |

Yeah, I emailed Odino on this last week and I think he just mistakenly put Doku instead of Cuck. He is updating his guide with the info I gave him on the game endings, so maybe he will change that too.
I have no idea about the green ship. If you are using cheats, disable the cheats and try to get out. That never happened to me before. |

The problems don't end there:
In the part where you have to throw 4 rocks onto a monument in Okami Island, in order to cause an earthquake to happen, I can't seem to get it to work. I tried facing the back of the ball, and throwing the rocks, I even tried facing towards the front of the platform holding the ball, and throwing the rocks, but nothing still happened.
I wonder what I'm doing wrong. |

I got through that fine. I think I remember having to hit a little bit in front and to the right of the monument. It will seem like it is hitting an invisible object in front of it. At least I think it was that object. Did you hit the pirate ship on the left (a few screens previous) with 10 barrels? Maybe not doing that won't let you hit the monument?
There are also several places in his FAQ where he mixes up East/West, but nothing that isn't too difficult to figure out on your own. The guy is a FAQing machine and good luck finding someone else to do those Famicom guides, but his detail in mazes can be a bit vague some time. |

I thought it was stated in the FAQ/Walkthrough that the only way that the bridge leading to the monument will expand is if you hit the pirate ship on the left (a few screens previous) with 10 barrels.
Also, is the monument the giant platform that holds the ball, or the ball itself? Finally, I'd like to see some screencaps of it, just to see how it's done, so that the next time I play through the game I will be able to see if I am doing it right. |

Guess what? I finally beat the game! I managed to find out what I was doing wrong the whole time after all!
One more question I have about this game: How many endings are there, and can the best ending be obtained by acquiring all 8 items, and all 3 crystals? |

Your endings depend on the 3 crystals (since you need to get the other items anyway to proceed through various points in the game). You get the best ending if you have all 3 crystals. It shows all the enemies in the game and the credits. 2 crystals gives you the enemies but not the credits. 1 crystal just shows THE END after you get the treasure (no enemies or credits).
What were you doing wrong from your above post? |

It turns out that when I was facing the monument, and throwing the rocks at it, I wasn't far enough away from it.
Finally, you may be wondering what I think of this game. I think it's terrific. I'd give it an 8/10. It's one of those games that starts out tedious at first, but once mastered, it's nothing but excellent. |

Huh. I knew the crystals changed the ending, but I didn't realize it varied based on how many you had found. I had always assumed that you got the bad ending unless you found all three.
Makai Island is a good game, it's a real shame it was cancelled. I'm really glad that we were able to give people the opportunity to play it. |
