Sorry to spam, but I'll try to keep it relevant to Lost Levels.
Over the past couple weeks, I've started e-mailing old-time gamemakers and asking them about their pasts. I've managed to get some interesting replies, which I've posted in Game Developer Research Institute's Interviews section.
David R. Foley
The founder of Foley Hi-Tech Systems touches on some MD/Gen games that never saw the light of day, such as "Savage Heroes," a stop-motion fighting game, and "Ring of Doom," based on "Lord of the Rings."
Karen Mangum
Artist who worked on video games in the mid-1990's. She gave an interesting reply, but she didn't really get into anything specific like I had hoped, and I've decided not to press the issue (unless someone here would like me to). The only reason I tried getting in touch with her is because she worked on a lot of unreleased games like "Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City" for the Game Gear, "Fireteam Rogue" (which was apparently being converted from the Genesis to the Super NES), and "Tiny Toons" for the Atari Jaguar. Take a look at her resume here.
Lars Norpchen
Once worked for RazorSoft's Punk Development. He talks about "Vampire Killer," which he was working on for the Genesis, but was never released.
Kevin Seghetti
Talks about a myriad of things, but to keep it relevant, he talks briefly about cancelled games "Cyberthug" (PC) and "Velocity" (PS1/Sat). You can see screenshots here. He also tries to recall a lawsuit waged against RazorSoft by Sega.
Early on, he worked on everybody's favorite Master System game, "Alf." He talked about it on SMS Power here a while back.

Hey, I know Lars, his wife used to write the best articles I ever published on Gamasutra! I met him once at a comic-con, actually. |

New interviews:
- Former Sega Midwest programmer Jim Reichert talks about working at said studio and the unreleased 32X game Aftershock.
- John Bartak, formerly of Ringler Studios, talks VERY briefly about the unreleased Charles Barkley and Brett Hull Atari Jaguar games.
Sorta new:
- Former Parker Brothers contractor Bob Halliday talks about an unreleased Q*bert game for the Atari 800. He threw out his copy! |
