Hey, folks, I found a few interesting screenshots of Top Secret (Bionic Commando) in an old Famicom Magazine.

And a few more things too:

Compared to the guy in the final version, I much prefer the chief from Inspector Gadget in a Devo hat.

In light of Bionic Commando's resurgance, I can't wait to see Proto-Hitler/Master-D/Leader.

The proto overhead level looks even more like Commando. The detail is practically the same.

And I kind of agree about the guy's portrait in the proto looking a little better. Course I have no idea what the other characters look like.

Woah!

I dunno if the first picture is from the same magazine or not, but you can also find that picture on the back of the game's box (at least the PAL NES box has it)

Am I the only one who thought "Shits! It's Von Kaiser!" when looking at the picture in the opening of this topic?

(Awesome stuff, by the way)

[edit]
Hope you don't mind this! (Again, thanks for posting these pieces of awesome)

Sadly, I have nothing that can top the drastically different art styles used in the commander portrait... but here's my contribution:

Here's a direct scan from my personal copy of the game('s box), and I included a cropped version of the screenshots as well... I hope they are of some use, as they all feature small details that are not in the final version of the game.

Back of Box.

Screenshots Only.

The two things that stick out the most to me are the use of the 'cross' panel in the first screenshot and that the cracked/decaying textures on the buildings seem to be more detailed or placed differently than in the final version of the game.

Looks like the first shot had a spelling correction, I guess.
It looks like a large tsu in the proto and a small in the final.

I noticed the boss in the pre-release Ninja Gaiden bar pictures is Basaquer, who is the third boss of the game in the final. He appears to be green in that picture as opposed to his red palette in the retail release. He was considered one of the more annoying bosses in the game, so it would've been interesting having him be the first one.

These scans are really awesome Chris, but they're also good at driving me crazy. :P
