This one looked like it could have been really cool (if a bit blocky). Hell, it would have satisfied our cravings for a portable Zelda, at any rate.
Much larger pictures here: http://www.disgruntleddesigner.com/chrisc/secret/GB__1990Q3.html#keith

Wow! That looks fun, but then again I think I like Zelda clones more than Zelda... |

Woah. That's quite the Zelda clone. Looks an awful lot like zelda (down to where I'd say not just general design being lifted right out of Zelda 1, but the bottle in the shop image even looks creepishly close to the Zelda 1 bottles... Of course, you can only draw a simple bottle in so many ways.)
Guess EPIC/SONY(?) were playing some good ol' Let's Play Money Making Game until someone on Nintendo's side just went "Eh-hmm!!"
(Also, hey, RAF WORLD pictures! And, heh, helmet-less design... Another SunSoft oddity. So production order was probably US -> JP/EU. Thus the US version might not have been "cutified" or "simplified", and the JP/EU ones are more like updated versions... interesting. Iirc, the helicopter shoots bullets while on ground level in both PAL and JP releases too, while in the US one it does not. I actually kinda thought everything was the other way around; with the helmet-less design being an afterthought, and the other design was a "Terminator"-era design that was changed + helicopter boss being "simplified"... Guess not.) |

What else did Epic develop? Were they a subsidiary of Sony? Or is that "Epic" as in Epic Records? |

Epic and Sony are the same company/label. They're probably primarily a publisher of games, rather than developer.
They've published plenty of games, including Soltice & its sequel Equinox, Jerry Boy, etc. The above were developed by Software Creations and System Sacom, respectively. |

Can you get the characters from the name? I'd like to see if this is mentioned on any Japanese sites. |

I didn't know Mr Chin wasn't released in Japan. Actually I see at least 3 games there that ended up released in America. That, Skate or Die Bad n Rad, and Balloon Kid. Kind of weird Konami thought of bringing that out since they didn't release their port of Skate or Die over to Japan. |

Yeah but you know how to use a scanner better than he does. It drives me crazy when people don't make large scans of the screenshots, they're the best part! |

The screenshot is blurry, but that Kabuto game looks like it might be the same as Shogun Maeda. Does that preview mention Vic Tokai?

Yes, the credits say (c) vic tokai (c) sho kosugi corporation. I didn't know Shogun Maeda though but it might be the same game with a different title. |

Yeah, that's the same game. It was announced in the U.S. as Shogun Maeda at the same time as Sugar Thief. |
