Hello all,
I edit for the youtube channel at youtube.com/garudoh that is focused on The Music of Video Games
I'm currently thinking about running a series with the music from unreleased and/or Japanese only games, with video if available.
Some titles I've been thinking about are:
California Raisins
Sun Man
Castlevania: Resurrection (Dreamcast) (No video released)
Kid Dracula (NES)
Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa
Erik the Viking (No video released)
What do you think about the list above? as I'm not sure if they all have "good" music. Also what are some suggestions?
Also, if anyone has access to some unreleased game music that isn't easily available let me know.
Or if a program exists to rip .nfs files and convert them to .MP3 or .wav let me know! I could def. use them.
Thanks for the great responses I'm sure I'll get
Edit: We have had issues with Konami flagging our videos in the past, so we are iffy about doing them, unless of course some of you have a Konami contact that could get us the OK.

Titan Warriors, Earthbound and Star Fox 2 are unreleased games with good music. |

Didn't someone here do a remix of Pescatore's soundtrack? It's the usual Sunsoft quality; top notch. Hebereke's got some tracks as well. |

Hebereke is not a Japanese exclusive (Ufouria), but Megami Tensei II is. And it is awesome. Ditto Moryo Senki Madara. |

Secret Ties has some catchy music, in a Ninja Gaiden/Castlevania way. |

Might as well be, the UK version was mostly ignored. |

Erik the Viking is a good call, really enjoyed the music and the movie, really bummed that the game never came out.
Didn't know music (or anything else for that matter) was ever released for the Dreamcast Castlevania.

Most of EarthBound's music (Zero, I'm assuming) was redone in the SNES sequel though. Wisdom of the World (Queen Mary's theme) is one of my favorites though, and AS FAR AS I KNOW was never reused. |

That's not even close to true, actually. |

Music apparently created for the game was uploaded to the Castlevania Dungeon several years ago, but I guess Konami made Kurt take it down since then. |

I've found the Castlevania music elsewhere. It's too bad Konami isn't really on board with this.
Thanks for all the good suggestions guys. Are the ones in my list even worth doing?
Also, if a Japanese only game has a translation patch out that's a big plus too, as I'm probably going to have to capture all the video myself. |

Just remebered two that may or may not interest you (if you didn't know already):
The Famicom version of Castlevania III uses the VRC6 chip.
Lagrange Point (also Famicom) uses VRC7...it's kind of unsettling at first to hear near-Genesis quality music with NES quality graphics. It's an untranslated RPG though, so playing it might be a bit of a problem.
I could find some really great music if I sat down and looked, but all that's coming to mind right now is released stuff. |

you and two dozen other people, if you haven't noticed.

what kind of videos? It's BS if they flag music from released games (unless they just started doing it, because last I checked you can find pretty much every Konami tune on youtube). But if it's the Ressurection music....well, I've seen it asked to be taken down before, but it's still BS.
But it is somewhat more understandable with CVR. If I recall correctly, it turned out (or was heavily hinted) that the pack of mp3s sent to the Castlevania Dungeon wasn't just CVR music, it also contained stock/sample music that Konami may have bought the rights to or even produced internally. The music clearly isn't all from CVR, so you might see if you can get away with just putting up the stuff that would actually fit a CV title (which, if I recall correctly, would be pretty easy to tell from both the tone of the song and the song names themselves).

There's several different Winamp "output" plugins to do this, including a very useful and simple LAME plugin. Just select them for output, configure them and then play the file normally. If it's not timed by some method (such as a pre-configured cutoff, NSFE format or an m3u file), note you'll have to stop it manually. You'll also want to turn "repeat" off so it doesn't start over again at the end of the playlist.
There's other programs that do this too....Audio Overload (general purpose multi-format soundchip emulator for Win/Linux/Mac) has a dump to WAV option along the same lines, and HOOT (handles PC-x8, X68000 and stuff like that) also has one hiding in one of the drop down menus...

sigh....I'm only going to give you some unreleased games, because there's already ten million videos on Youtube of music from games never released outside of Japan. No promise about how good these actually are:
Chimera Beast
Congo SNES
Eurit
Jelly Boy 2 (this has a few rather catchy themes)
LIST SUDDENLY INTERRUPTED BY POSTER BEING EATEN BY TIMEWOLVES
also, here's an earlier LL thread on unused music from games, just because:

Aside from the screens and music, there was a few cheesy animation test vids, some (ugly) character design sketches (posted here somewhere, 100% official nude Sonia Belmonts and all) and bits ad drabs of info from interviews.
Oh, here we are: TOTALLY HOT NOT SAFE FOR WORK SONIA BELMONT BREASTS BREASTS BREASTS
finally, today's greatest thing I have ever read on Wikipedia:
Code: | BIONICLE: The Legend of Mata Nui (originally planned to be released in Fall 2001, but cancelled because of a lawsuit by Maori activists and a glitch in the first level) |
also why did Sega cancel a PC port of Shadow the Hedgehog but not one of Sonic Heroes? I bet that's Europe's fault. Stupid Europe. |

At E3 in 1999 (or was it 2000?) There was a pretty badass-looking video of CV for DC playing. Wish I brought a video camera.
Then again, maybe that vid is floating around...I dunno.
