fist is dumped, I have it, but it's not mine to give out.

The same thing as "undumped" for me. Wink

Well, the owner was supposed to give it out sometime last year, but he hasn't yet. It's coming eventually though, I guess they're putting together a feature or something like we used to do.

Exploding Fist is planned for a limited reproduction release which should happen around may/june I believe.

It looks like a No-Intro set to me.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why did he post that ROM list here? Neither Exploding Fist nor War in the Gulf are on there. That's the first time I've used nor in a sentence since college.

Yes. It looks odd not seeing a ROMs list with a billion hacks, bad dumps and pirates.

Crime Busters in on the list, which was the subject of the thread.
Big Nose & the Witchdoctor? Is that a recently dumped proto?

Nor PAL Battletoads, oddly enough.

Predator (Central America) isn't on there either. What kind of fucking list is that?

Not recently, it's been out for a good couple of years or more. Got released at the Digital Press forums, I think. If I remember right, it's a super early version of one of the released Big Nose games.

No-Intro ROM sets tend to be becoming more popular for explicitly this reason - it sticks to good dumps of commercially-sold/published content, rather than the oogles of fan-hacks, fan-translations, etc. that've consumed a lot of older databases.

I myself dig through a few torrent scenes and see quite a few No-Intro sets in place where originally GoodTools-based sets reigned. Unfortunately during those times I'd specifically be looking for certain fan translations or hacking projects - such is my horrible luck.

Though are pirate originals accepted?

I noticed Rocman X, Super Pang and Gaiapolis are listed.
The first is a trademark infrigment, and the other two are arcade ports that I highly doubt Sachen had permission to develop.
(I'd guess the last is the most obscure. It was an overhead action game by Konami. I hadn't heard of it before playing the NES game, but when it was actually playable, I felt something was off. :P )

I really think the worst thing howdy doody did was include known bad dumps/overdumps. Why? Even worse is when they consume 50%+ of the goddamn size of the "Good"set.

I guess as long as the No-Intro sets are still as up-to-date and "correct" (ha) as howdy doody's it's not such a big deal, but yeah. Personally I don't know why people don't just make torrents of it with the bad dumps/overdumps removed (and possibly the hacks section, too, I guess)

The only problem I see with removing those is that I remember stumbling upon at least one actual prototype that was labeled as just a bad dump of the final game.

I wish the proper research would have been made with the Good sets, so it would be just a matter of automatically removing all the crap.

I believe it was a Mega Drive prototype of Treasureland Adventure. It's been a while, though, so it might have been fixed already.

kinda the thing with goodtools is (at least as far as I see it) they're supposed to be a database of pretty much every known rom in the universe - so you can run it on your folder full of shit and find out whether that Super Mario Bros rom you've got is a good dump, or a bad one, or the PAL version, or a Taiwanese pirate or some hack where Princess Peach gets her tits out at the end or whatever. if all the crap was eliminated from the database it'd kinda defeat the object.
