Very cool stuff, but Ghouls & Ghosts 3 was not for the Sega Genesis -- it says Super Famicom right in the pic!

Oh, yeah, and there was never a pic of a BS-X "Zelda 2". Check out my post on this thread and you'll see the same pic was shown in 1988 only as part of a SFC graphics demo.

I used to have a binary for Gauntlet for GBC from the developer but lost it during a move from an ex-girlfriend's. Sad *kicks the ground*

I'm pretty sure I uploaded it to the old FeFeA secret board back in the day.

kap, Skrybe, Li Wang, and various other Lost Levels members should have it if they downloaded it back then. Say, that was about 6-7 years ago?

I never downloaded Gauntlet, I didn't really feel like playing with it.

Not sure if this is strictly unreleased stuff, but Mechanoids was released as Metal Mech (published by Jaleco).

It's supposed to be, I just couldn't figure out what that one was and assumed it was unique. Thanks for the tip!

That screenshot of Crash 'n the Boys: Soccer Challenge from Grand Nestral is actually from the Japanese version of Nintendo World Cup instead (Nekketsu Koko Dodgeball Bu Soccer Hen, or Kunio's Soccer).

Nekketsu Soccer League (the game Soccer Challenge was supposed to based on) has a more elaborate HUD.

The Sim City shots look an awful lot like a watered down version of the SNES game. They probably decided to shelve the NES version and go full blast on the SNES one, incorporating the basic structure and some other elements into it. I am betting that the NES just did not have the juice and graphics needed to satisfy the Maxis dorks.
Too bad, it would have been nice.

From a post at Digital Press by someone who playtested NES Sim City:
Quote:
This NES version stayed unreleased for a reason. It was inherently flawed. The "block sizes" of the commercial, industrial, and residential zones were only 2X2, instead of 3X3 like they were in every other version of the game. Meanwhile every other zone was the same size as the SNES version, including gifts. This meant that you couldn't make donut blocks, and the city planning was all screwed up as such.

On top of that it was really slow. Too slow. The NES probably had some trouble doing all the math necessary to keep that game running at a decent pace, and it couldn't keep up with the changes as you made them.

That's informative, Skrybe. Donut blocks are essential to some people who play the game, and on top of that, the CPU just didn't have the guts, as I suspected.

I hope this isn't the relaunch of X-cult you've been talking about Pachuka. I was expecting something wiki-like. I'd rather browse a site than just download materials.

Also, that bs zelda 2 remake, I'm pretty sure Unseen64 translated the text in the article to say that thats actually a proto of Zelda 3. You can make out a 3 in the text.

That Zelda 2 shot was a tech demo from when the SNES was still in development, like 1988.

The first screen shot of Magic Candle looks a little odd, like it's from another game. The second shot is the same as the beginning of the Japanese version.

Probably from the PC version.
